Yes, my wife initiated the romance we have. We were good friends up to that point, but, apparently she got sick of waiting for me to get the hint.
That's probably a good thing that she did initiate, as that's just something I probably could never do (I just didn't have the confidence). It was a very wonderful day for both of us when she did it (although I think she was literally shaking - which was cute - although probably not shaking nearly as much as when I proposed!).
It's one of the things that makes our relationship neat - it's unique to the two of us. Sometimes we follow the rules, sometimes we don't.
That said, to the original poster, as far as your discovery: cool - it's neat when we find our place in the world and find out what is right for us.
