I believe the point Brandi and Steph are trying to make is that a TS person who has proper documentation in their original name should just be honest and forthcoming with the officer in question about their male identity they would avoid this mess. No one is advocating allowing a TS or anyone else to drive on a suspended license or impropper documentation, just that if they do have the proper documentation they need to be honest or face the consequences.

To say that a TS should not be allowed to drive just because they are in femme really is ridiculous as long as they have proper documentation and are legal to drive. I drive all of the time with my male documentation and am prepared to be honest with any officer that questions me about anything. If a TS is not prepared to drive and show their ID then and only then should they face the decision about giving up the privilege of driving and take public transportation or use a taxi.

Of course this is all circumvented by having propper documentation in your new or female name, which I can't wait to get.

Yeah, I was somewhat confused about this until I read Brandi's response.  That makes perfect sense.  She obviously had not legally changed her name/documentation to her female name, probably had a credit card in her female name and was too embarassed to show the male ID she probably had (possibly even with her) and showed her credit card instead.  When I went fulltime, I had legally changed my name, but had to wait about a week before I could get a license in my new name.  During that time, I kept a copy of my legal name change, carry letter and my male ID.  I didn't need it, but it certainly was an uncomfortable period of time.

  No offense but that's absolutely ridiculous.  There are many reasons why transitioning male or female TS individuals may not be able to change thier documentation initially.  Telling these people that they shouldn't be driving makes no sense as, other than being TS, they have to function in daily life like everyone else.  

I could've misunderstood Katia's response, but I believe she was being sarcastic, as I was. In my state, I will never be able to change my documentation, so I don't agree with the point if she was being serious.

I think that was what I was trying to say in my post. I think the officer was very lenient to this person. He did let her go and she kept on driving. Maybe the officer should have told her to wait on the curb while he called a tow truck to impound the vehicle. I might have been cheaper?
