I think we need to move beyond writing letters and complaining when it comes to things like this.  I believe it would be most proactive, as an example, if a bunch of trans-people stormed 30 Rockefeller Center, passed security, and did a sit in on the set of SNL.  During a live taping.

But that's just my opinion (and NOT a call to action - I don't want to get banned).

I don't think anyone is calling for an aggressive revolt, just people making observations.

Define "aggressive."

Quote from: HillaryThompson on February 17, 2011, 03:17:52 AMI don't think becoming angry and mobbing to the streets is any way to handle it. I believe a more thoughtful, peaceful, loving and education-driven approach will be more effective 100% of the time.

How exactly would that be done?

Well I am late in reading this post. When I went to the link it had been removed altogether. So I suppose that is that.  :) I am in the dark about the hub bub. Oh well.

Boy is that flat-out chicken ->-bleeped-<- behavior.  "Oh I came up with the idea (and you have so obviously never been anywhere near Rockefeller Center or major broadcasting facilities if you think this is even remotely possible) and encouraged it, but don't blame me when people do it."

If Gimli was thinking that you just don't walk into Mordor, let me assure you that major TV production facilities, in a landmark building, in post-9-11 New York have much better security then Mordor could ever have dreamed of.

Why are you such a bitch to me on whatever thread we both happen to be on?  What did I do to you?

I don't like irresponsibility.  If you are going to say something, own it, if not, don't say anything.  But don't say it and then turn around and go 'you can't blame me for it.'  Don't advocate anything that you're not willing to be the first one to do.

That has nothing to do with you acting crappy and self-righteous toward other people.

QuoteOk, I just saw it, and now I want to punch things.

Then you wasted your time and life. Read a book instead of watching video.

Comedy is offensive by nature, if it's not offensive to someone it's not funny to anyone.  Being a joke is a huge step up from being a victim or the bad guy psychopathic murderer.  And don't worry.  The next step after being funny is to be boring.  Your life is next in line.

Wow... there are people who actually found this funny? Not only is it offensive but I thought it was kind of stupid too.

I didn't see the video because NBC blocked it.  But your comment describes most of the stuff on SNL.  If you take it personally it can be offensive.  It's great when you're high but if you're sober it can often be very lame.

But it's still a good thing to let them know that a lot of people suffer when a stigma is perpetuated.  Think about the evolution of what is now "the N word".  A lot of work by a lot of people went into erasing that particular word from the English language.  If we make enough noise, maybe one day there will be "the T word".
When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself.

In that case... What's up my ->-bleeped-<-s? Why do I have the feeling that I just threw gasoline on the embers?

Perhaps his best skit. "I divorced that ->-bleeped-<- (there I wrote it) loving bitch."

Funny is funny, but nothing (and this is the point of a lot of this) has the ability to cut crap to the bone that comedy has.  Which is why comedy is so powerful.

Sorry I just saw your comment but that is very true. Personally the "T word" doesn't bother me much because words don't often bother me but maybe one day that will be the case.

I've thought on it a lot more and I think my biggest problem with this is not specifically the skit itself but the fact that there really isn't much about trans people in any positive light so this just further "proves" to some ignorant people that you gals are all like that while we all know that you are nothing like that. Also it's on a popular channel on a somewhat popular show so it wasn't a small amount of people to see it. Just my opinions though.
