smell on testosterone

Well, this is a slightly embarrassing topic. I'm okay with the change for the most part, I actually think I smell decent now whereas pre-T there was an almost rancid odor to my sweat and such. However, it's a much stronger smell. Especially the smell of my privates... I could have just taken a shower, but if I get aroused the scent is really powerful. I might just be sitting on the sofa and suddenly I'll catch a whiff, and it's a little disconcerting. First, because I'm not used to it and I don't expect it, and secondly because it reminds me of the precise nature of what's smelling like that. And once that happens, the smell sticks around for quite a while. Is this normal? And can anything be done about it? I know I have a sensitive sense of smell, but it still seems fairly noticeable and I get self conscious about it.

I don't know if you can do anything much about normal male crotch odor. I've spent all my life around men and in sexual relationships with men, so I'm used to the smell and like it. I don't know what your orientation is or what experiences you've had (you look pretty young, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything), but the smell can be disconcerting if you're not used to it.

Guys can get yeast infections and fungal infections down there, by the way.

Your diet can profoundly affect your body odor.

Cotton underwear can help with crotch odor.

Trimming or shaving pubic hair can help.

I've heard that some guys use a bit of powder down there to absorb moisture. You're supposed to avoid talc, but something with corn starch is okay.

One of the facilities in my new job has some sort of vinyl-ish chairs that make me sweat like the dickens. We're in Southern California, and we have chairs that increase body heat. Real smart, that. ::)

One of the few changes I've actually noticed. I stink constantly.. 20 minutes out of the shower and my armpits already are disgusting. Smell down there... it used to be pretty consistent.. now some days it's absolutely horrible and other days almnost non existant. showering doesn't help for much longer then an hour.. but then again I really don't notice it unless I've been handling my junk and therefore have it on my hands. In general I used to be able to get away with not washing tshirts even if I wore them 4 or 5 days.. they'd be good for a while. Now I'm lucky if I get a day or two before they are nasty nasty nasty. I find myself applying deodorant before i go to sleep now even.. to try and cut down overnight smell.

I'm glad I'm not the one who started this thread.  ;D

Okay, all joking aside, I was honestly wondering about the exact same thing because I've noticed body odors of mine changing rapidly.  My clothes smell VERY similar to my dad....the scent of my urine is definitely different.  Underarm smell...not much of a change there (thankfully).  Although I DO notice that it takes a much shorter amount of time for me to start smelling again *overall*.

My feet have always been the worst problem area and it's only gotten worse since starting T.  I think it's almost time I invested in a new pair of tennis shoes that aren't fully saturated in foot odor (even after washing the shoes) and some foot powder.  I'm one of those people where I like sandals, but I know they're bad for the feet AND it rains a lot where I live and so I like using sturdy shoes.

Hm. I still barely smell in general. My underarms smell if I get scared or stressed, but for the most part I'm basically odorless.

Downstairs...still doesn't seem to smell like a guy, but it's not quite as female anymore. And not horribly strong.

I assume we just have a lot of individual variation, like any group of guys. You'll probably get used to your own smell in time; you're likely only noticing it because it's new. I've only met one guy who bathed regularly and had a genuinely offensive body odor.

Thanks Arch, that helps. I've never been with a cisguy before, so I really have no idea what smells and such could be expected down there.

About underarm smell and sweating, I started sweating so much that I quickly realised I needed a better deodorant, since I had issues even before testosterone. I'm using Degree clinical protection now, and it works excellently. Applying deodorant before sleeping always helps, I think that's when your pores open, so it can be absorbed better.

I'm not on T, but I just had to comment, frig Nikolai, your hair looks awesome in that pic and it's 100 percent male, definitely the best pic I've seen of you
sorry for the random pop in but I really couldn't help but point out how well your transition appears to be going

Last summer was the first summer that I got truly sweaty (my first summer, I had only been on T a few months). I am glad that it was a cool summer...and I dread the next one.

I get sweaty all over my body now, even when the weather isn't all that hot. Ick.

For underarms, I have to use something mild because of my skin allergies. But now I'm thinking that my skin has become tougher...maybe I don't need the hypoallergenic antiperspirant anymore. 'Cause it really doesn't do much for me. I need something stronger. But I don't want to break out, and I don't want to throw away money on something that might make me break out.

What is the strongest hypoallergenic antiperspirant on the market?

Thanks! :D Things have definitely been changing at a good pace.

At least your smell (I'm assuming) is manlier. Men tend to have stronger smells. (I found that on T, I didn't mind the new smells of my crotch. It no longer smelled like that "vagina smell" that I hate.) And, like others have mentioned, you likely only really notice the smells right now because you're unused to them.

Do other people notice it? Unless their face is in your armpit or crotch, it's unlikely that they do. (And if their face is in your crotch, they better like the smell. Just saying.)
