It started with a Barbie doll.

C.J. spotted the 50th anniversary bikini-clad Barbie lying on the bed still in its original box and screamed with delight.

C.J.'s mom had tossed it there while cleaning out a closet. The Barbie was a gift from her own mom — a reminder of childhood days when she played with Mattel's iconic doll. Now her little boy wanted to do the same.

She hesitated and then let him. That was more than a year ago — a decisive moment turned into a journey that C.J.'s mom is chronicling in a blog titled Raising My Rainbow.
