Yes you read it right.  I have went gone back to school.  And I am being a little adventurous.  I always had a dream, since I was little.  And while I might get to the exact place I wanted then, I am at least going to be in the field.

I have entered a vocational school and I am learning Veterinary Medicine as a Vet Technician.  Basically I will become a Veterinary Nurse in about 14 Months.

And as a side note to those who may be wondering, no one in my class even has the remotest idea of my past.

I think that is awesome! You are never too old to learn and follow your dreams!

57, dear student? Remember that you are a mere child to some of us who could have been your mother.

Congrats, Janet, and do enjoy. The 14 months will fly by.

Hi Janet

At last some wonderful news that we can all enjoy and celebrate with you.  Just a few things you need to consider:

  • You can always teach an old dog bitch some new tricks
  • You are never too old to learn
  • Watch your grammar for example 'I have went back to school'
  • Never give up on your dreams
  • Do not tell anyone about your past
  • Study hard

However, the most important thing I have saved for last and that is 'to have fun'.  My thoughts and best wishes are with you on your new journey.

Warm regards
Sarah B

Beat me to it Janet.   I have resigned from my job and will be going back to study too.  French or German, hopefully leading to a new career direction at 57.  Good luck.

My Mom actually went back to college at 58 and did a 2 year computer program to catch up on her programming qualifications (the first time she went they had a room-sized computer that read cards or something to load programs), and graduated with honors... at the same time that I was going to the same college and graduating with less than honors in my own program...

Thats cool. My mum can barely turn on the laptop. I taught her how to use Google so most of her online time is spent there. She typed her email address into Google search box as an attempt to log in...

It's strange, she did so well in school and knows a ton about computers, yet she calls me to come over and figure out why her internet isn't working when her router isn't even plugged into the wall. She also once asked me to figure out why her remote control wasn't working and it turned out the batteries were in backwards  :D

I think she's playing dumb to get me to come visit  ;)

WTG, Janet!!  You rock!  I am SO sorry I didn't see this till now, but better late than never.  I (or rather, my former self) was never a good student in childhood, but a number of years ago (1991, 2 months before youngest child born) I lost my job, and it was a LONG time before I found another.  In between, I went back to school to upgrade my computer skills.  Best thing I ever did.  And I discovered, I was now pretty much the BEST student in the school!  I was brilliant.  Now, I can just IMAGINE what sort of student Colleen would be.  The thing I remember most fondly was the sense of freedom - as in, "You mean, all I have to do is STUDY?  Cool!  I can handle that."  Far easier than holding down a job (but just the same, I'm very glad to have the job I do now)...

Anyway, CONGRATS!!  GREAT life choice!
