Before I even came out to anyone I wanted to get my ears pierced, my mom thought, well lots of guys get their ears pierced, so no big deal, though she wondered what ear I'd do, I told her both of coarse. But I only ever got the basic lobe single piercing only. I wore a lot of different pretty earrings for years, but always had trouble with them getting itchy, crusty, this within just minutes, eventually a couple years ago I started rarely wearing any at all, they were pretty but so uncomfortable. Seems I can only wear silver, and I'm really cheap when it comes to jewelry so I've yet to buy any in recent years, used to have a few but have a habit of forgetting to take them off when showering, or sleeping, earrings don't last long with me. I wore some of my mom's earrings a couple weeks ago, was surprised my holes were still open to accept them, but the first day, a couple hours into wearing them, itching, and the next day even after cleaning them and my holes, itching even worst within minutes. I'd like to have some earrings to wear, but I need to find something that is perfectly me, and of coarse would have to take more care into making sure not to ruin them, guess I'm just lazy when it comes to accessories, make-up, that sorta stuff. As for other types of body piercings - nose, lip, tongue, belly button, nipples, and so on, eh, no, I dunno what it is but they kinda gross me out.

I think pierced ears (and other facial parts) look excelent. As long as you don't put very much, then you will just look like a shelf in a hardwerestore. I myself have 12mm holes in both ears and 1.6mm between the eyes.

If a person doesn't want to get their ears pierced, they don't have to... Some folks can't get piercings due to allergies

I also have double in each ear and love them... But that doesn't mean you have to... Do what is comfortable for you  :)

Yep.  Be comfortable.

Personally? I want them like...umm..yesterday?

Can't WAIT to pop in earrings that don't require a snap clip-on in the back.... ::)

I've had 4 piercings in my ears since many years before questioning my gender. It may have something to do with the "alternative" scene when I was a teenager, but I just really wanted hoops in 10-12ga. I think they add a feminine appearance, as does most jewelry not intended specifically for men. They've shrunk now though, and I think unless I went to plugs, they would not look good with a large gauge anymore, sticking to 16ish.

Beth, I doubt it will really hurt.  My first pair of earrings were danglers and that was about 2 weeks after getting pierced.

I personally dislike piercings as well. But on the ears I think it's acceptable. I don't like the thought of getting anything on my body pierced, but when I got my ears done it was totally worth it. No pain, some swelling and throbbing, but that was expected. Having pierced ears makes it a whole lot easier to pick out earrings, clip-ons are a bit more difficult to shop for.

Having once had an apadravya, 3 guiches, and a tongue stud, I'm definitely an advocate for proper piercings. DO NOT go to a mall or wally world to get your ears pierced with a gun. It is very difficult to get a piercing to be straight, though I like to think that all that I performed on people were straight. They tend to require more aftercare than a proper piercing from a tattoo/piercing shop as well.
And to prevent the itchyness you need to stay away from cheap metals. Personally, I can only wear surgical ss or gold. These days I wear gold/diamond studs which I take out perhaps 2 days a week, even wear them in the shower and to sleep, because I'm afraid of losing them.

I had one ear pierced for a long time but got the second one done this winter.  I love them.  Eventually will get a second one in each ear but will probably wait till winter again.  I work outside everyday spring through fall and not much at all during the winter so it will be easier to take care of them.

As a side note I would love to get a belly button piercing also.  I am certain of that one this coming winter.

How bad was the swelling and whatnot for the tongue piercing? Going to get one in the next couple months.

I'm surprised the genital piercings didn't make your GID worse.
Well, I simply wanted to do something a bit different with my dick before I got rid of it :-) it was okay and all, but made it so much more difficult to tuck that I didn't bother to much at that time. I also wanted to disprove the myth that it's possible to attach a pa to a guiche. The guiches were fun as I could attach wind chimes to them, but were a literal pain in the ass, one migrated out and the middle one was the only one to heal.

I didn't experience much swelling at all in my tongue, but I'm surprised at how long the barbell has to be. I never realized jut how thick the tongue is! The length is critical to get right so go to a reputable shop. I forgot how long mine was since I never took it out til the doctors did my mri. I tried taking it out multiple times but just couldn't unscrew the ball ever. Get yours placed as far back in your mouth as they'll do it so you won't have to worry so much about chipping your teeth and if you have a retainer, that'll serve as the perfect barrier. It's easoier to talk with a stud than with retainers, and if you're used to the latter, the former won't be any problem at all! Mine was 14 ga and I never expanded it. I think, but can't say for sure, that it was 7/8" long.
Any other questions?

I'm with you for getting a navel ring this winter! Though I'm hesitant about the drawn out healing process, it ought to be so worth the effort! My usual piercer says I have the perfect bellybutton for it as the skin at the top of my navel hangs down slightly allowing anyone to pinch it easily!

A bit off topic, please excuse but since there's a lot of people reading it....

My ears are newly pierced (6 weeks). According to the pokie-people, I can change the original earring out now, but must replace it with another one with a post type.

>snippage<

Advice, opinions?  (fwiw, they'll make me look *very* girlie....  ;)  )

Everyone heals differently.  Some people will have their holes start to close up within days no matter how many years have passed since the initial piercing while others can go months not wearing anything with nary a change in the hole to show for it.    The advice I was given was after the initial healing wear what you like during the day or evening, but sleep with posts.  I was told to do that for about 8 to 12 months after the initial piercing just to be on the safe side.  I use my original starter studs for that.
When I die, they will put me in a box and dispose of it in the cold ground. And in all the million ages to come, I will never breath, or laugh, or twitch again. So won't you run and play with me here among the teeming mass of humanity? The universe has spared us this moment.  -- Anonymous

I have a really cool set of "wire" (not post) earrings that I'd like to wear, for just a little bit (a couple hours).  They are danglers, about 1" long, very very lightweight. (Basically look at your thumb, from tip to first joint; now imagine a paperclip for weight.)

I've two friends who are telling me all kinds of gloom and doom will happen, but I just can't see how 2 hours with wire earrings will permanently harm anything.

The ears and holes have healed nicely, no redness or soreness, not sensitive to pressure or pulling...

Hi Beth

I've know got two in each ear. The first was fine, got an infection but once that cleared up I could wear anything after about six week. No sign of them healing up over night either. The second set took longer to heal but they have been fine with new ear rings after 6 weeks. During the work day I wear hoops in the first set and a garnet coloured studs in the second. When I go out I wear long danglies in the first and a big studs in the seconds. I have to admit collecting ear rings is a major hobby, next to shoes, handbags, clothes, makeup, perfume.

I'm in guy mode at work and no one has been negative about me having gold hoops and a garnet stud . Obviously I look very masculine, with my lasered face and shaped eyebrows and feminine watch, Oh and female trousers

Wear and enjoy. I always rinse ear rings in some hydrogen peroxide before I put them in just to keep things clean and tidy. I also take them out when I wash my hair and give the ears a good wash as well.

Enjoy

I used clip earrings for yrs., and since I got mine pierced, much betr. I found that clips would hurt more and be aggravating. I also agree with use a professional studio. They use a needle and honestly didnt hurt...:)

It really isn't all that scary, you just have to hold still a few seconds so the tech. can center it... I couldn't see the piercing gun and hardly even noticed when it was done  I even had to ask the lady... "Oh, is it done?"  when she went to turn me to look in the mirror

Oh I think we go too far.

Mine have all been done by gun. No pain.  Happens in seconds. I think the same with people using needles. You don't see them.  It just happens. If you don't want to, don't. There is no compulsion.
They do feel good though

Well, my concern is not really the needle. Of course, I fear needles, but who cares if I pass out, it's just easier to pierce.

No, I just find horribly gross the fact of having... Stuff... THROUGH me. And it hanging... ON me... You know, uhm, I'm not really willing to have a hole in me. Plus, when I get old, I'll get my grandmother's long, disgusting lobes...

No, really, I don't think I will get them pierced. Plus, I learned not long ago that an energetic point is right where we pierce. (This is not esoterism, it's acupuncture, and it's proved - though no one knows why yet.)

Maybe I'll use clip-ons... Or maybe I won't use earrings. Heck, it can't be so necessary, right ? D:

(And if they ask I'll pretend I have a big allergy to piercings.)

Whether or not your ears are pierced shouldn't influence your ability to pass.

Anyone know how re-piercing works?  I had one of my ears pierced in '95 but stopped wearing anything in that ear back in '99.  My girlfriend during that time was the one who urged me to do it (along with wanting to pluck my eyebrows and put makeup on me... is it any wonder we lasted five years?  )

Now I really want to get both ears done, but I'd want to have the new piercing in the same place as the old one if that's possible.  It sure would look funny having earrings in two different places.
