Hair gel?

Hey all,
So it's been decided I'm finally cutting my hair "boy short". Can't wait to get rid of all that long girly hair :D The problem with my hair is it's curly and I know what's gonna happen. It will frizz and look awful. Is there a gel or something for men (I have a sensitive scalp btw) to not cause the frizz to happen? And make it look like actual curls?

Any hair product that women can use, men can use as well, as long as you don't mind the smell; there are a few products targeted to men and a fairly large selection that are gender neutral. I'm not really a fan of gels (ick, crunchy) so I use got2b playful creme pomade or bumble and bumble styling cream most of the time, and Axe putty if I want to spike my hair. Any cream product will probably give you nice soft curls, or you can try a wax or a putty for a stronger hold/more styled look.

I'd say just go to a semi-decent haircut place and let the stylist suggest a product for you. If you like it, buy it, or if it's too expensive just ask what it is and go to the drugstore after and get something of the same type. Or if you want to try a few things out, Men's Health has a list of suggestions: http://www.menshealth.com/style/grooming/20-best-styling-products.php

This is what I use:
http://www.amazon.com/Garnier-Fructis-Survivor-Tough-Glue/dp/B003QUCO50

I like it a lot more than gel, and it seems to do a good job holding things in place without giving a new meaning to the term helmet hair.

I use gel on my hair daily.   I got it from the barber that I get my hair cut at.  It's designed just for guys.

I tried a handful of styling products, I literally tried a new product every time i went shopping as i used to be really fussy with my hair.
I found many of them not lasting long or having flaky bits appearing, but i found Black & White Wax, and instantly bought about 10 for 50 pounds on eBay.
If you think this is too expensive then i suggest you find another wax product, usually when you go to the hair dressers they'll have a few styling products on their selves, so should ask to try them out.
If i can remember some other decent one's i'll get back to you.

I had that problem too. My hair was super curly when it was long so I thought it would be the same once I cut it short. Turns out its less curly. I mean it's still pretty curly but it isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I just use Herbal Essences for curly hair and it seems to work fine for me.

It's a little pricy, but I use American Crew products for men and they're fantastic. Here's a link to one of the pomades I use:

Stay away from cheap hair gels, they'll make your hair crunchy and are generally kinda gross

I heard MOCO DE GORILA works well, and doesn't flake. But I have not personally used it.

I use göt2b glued cause my hair is like a fro.

I've never had any of the got2b stuff flake, and I used a lot of it back when I still had a mohawk.
The Garnier stuff is usually pretty good too.

Yeah, Garnier's great quality stuff that does what you want it to, I just can't stand it because it all smells way too strong and fruity. The got2b stuff is nice because they use pretty mild neutral scents that don't clash with anything.

Yeah, most of their stuff smells really bad.  I guess this one is supposed to be "cactus," so it thankfully doesn't smell sweet at all.

STAY AWAY FROM THE GEL!!  It's horrible for your hair and it looks just as horrible in your hair.  American Crew forming cream is best if you want to keep the curl and the fiber is best to straighten the curl.  Any type of wax will also straighten.  A greasy pomade will more than likely weigh your hair down but it will maintain a lot of the curl however, most pomades DO NOT wash out.  You can even put regular conditioner in your hair to control frizz just don't overdo it.

I'm using Axe "Smooth and Sophisticated Look" Shine Pomade right now.  I have EXTREMELY thick hair and right now it sticks straight up and just looks weird if I don't put anything in it.  So I put on the pomade and just push everything forward.  The pomade gives it a nice shiny "wet" look all day and keeps it pointing forward instead of straight up but it doesn't make it crunchy.  I like it.
In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity.
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity.
If it's alright, then you're all wrong.
Why bounce around to the same damn song?

I have really frizzy poofy curly hair. In my experience gel is not the way to go. It dries out the hair which is already too dry. On top of that, gel doesn't really tame the curls. It just makes 'em crunchy. I usually go for a paste or wax. The hold isn't as stiff but it doesn't dry out the hair and looks better.

Same here.  I thought I was going to have a fro, but it's perfectly fine.
