Being from Canada I dont know the states to well. So my question to you is Where in the States would be a good more accepting place and have more to offer and help in the transistion. Just wondering where in The states has good resourses for the trans community

I would say either NYC or certain places in California. NYC because its just so diverse(and awesome). There are also lots of places in Cali where there is a mass of LGBT resources. I have even heard of towns that are like 80%+ LGBT population.

I would stay right where I am!  Twin Cities is awesome & has tons of resources.  We have higher taxes but lots of benefits -- our schools are consistently ranked in the top 3 in the nation.  We have all four seasons --- with activties and things to do in all of them.  We have tons of bike trails & our public transit system works well.  Our unemployment is lower than the national average.  We have one of the most educated population in the nation --- something like 95% of all Minnesotans have a high school diploma and 86% have a post secondary degree.

There is a free shot clinic that will give you your shots if your unable to do so yourself.  There are a variety of transgender support groups -- a couple choices for youth (under 25).   If you are on state health care it covers therapy & hrt.  There are several guys in one of my groups who are on state health insurance b/c they are unemployed.  Twin Cities hosts a national transgender health each year that doctors from all over come too.   Transgender rights have been protected in our human rights act since the late 80's.  We have a huge transgender population.  We havea  group T-Men that meets monthly for transmen, allies & family.

I can give you more details if you want.  I am just so thankful that my family moved her six years ago.   My son has been able to transition without a hitch -- his high school even recognized transgender folks and work with the families to make it a safe place for the kids.  I am just starting the process and its been fairly easy.

Washington state is a great place to be trans. There are laws protecting us and a large trans population. Seatle and surrounding comunities have allot of medical profesionals familiar with trans needs. Even in Spokane in redneck land there is allot of trans acceptance and open minded peope.

Been looking to move as well. Just made a trip to visit Portland, oregon. Found it to be more than what I expected and hoped for. I just made a post a couple of days ago about my experience. Please check it out. Cant remember exactly what the title of the post is but its something along the lines of 'trip to Portland....as promised'. You'll see it!

As Rob said.... Twin Cities.  Minneapolis has been a great place to transition.

I'm in Colorado and love it here.  I'm from Boulder originally, and it's a really fun, loving city.  I live in Denver now, and it is fairly liberal.  We have several weekly trans groups and a huge LGBT community.  I would avoid southern Colorado, though.  There are several areas that are frighteningly conservative there.

I'm just fine in the small town I'm in now, despite the large mormon population.

Washington State would be a great choice. Seattle has gotten very expensive and they hate building new roads so the traffic is a nightmare. Tacoma, WA is cheaper but not as nice so I would go another 20 miles south to the Olympia area. It's very progressive and there are a lot of things to do. It is a very gay friendly but not sure about any trans resources.

The summers are freakin incredible but winters are long and damp.I kick myself regularly for ever leaving there. It was the biggest mistake of my life, for many reasons. The best thing about Western Washington vs. Cynthialee's side of the state is that it does not get NEAR as cold in the winter on the west side of the Cascade Mountains. They get snow sometimes but they don't even get it every winter.

I kind of like the idea of New york...that might be the selfish part of me wanting to stay close to canada. Anybody from NYC here could give me some ideas of where good places in NY to live are? And some resourses i could look up. Let me know i love the other ideas too and i'm looking them all up. Curse my fear of homesickness haha

well..... washington state and Minnesota are about as close to Canada as you can get     I could not resist.

I'm telling you now- if you're in Canada don't come to live in the States. Canada has more protection and options for trans people.

If you come to the U.S. there's a chance you will have to pay 100% for everything dealing with transition, depending on your insurance (if you have any). This includes therapy, doctors, hormones and surgeries.

Very few states and cities have anti-discrimination and protective laws for us. Getting married here is much harder if not impossible for some.

If you're tired of where you live then I recommend you move to a different place in Canada. You guys have so many more options and more government support... don't throw it away. But, if you insist you must move to America then we can switch places.

Ya i really like canada. I would only move for Tay. I love the heath care and since i live in ontario its legal to be married if your gay so thats awsome. I dunno such a big dission hehe

Do you have a US work permit and skills that can get you hired?  New York is one of the most expensive places in the world to live.

I'd vote for Cali too, given a truck-load of provisions, like a) you have a college degree, b) you have some sort of skills that other people are willing to pay you for c) you're in California because you want to be in California above all else.  You can make more money in other places.  You can buy houses cheaper almost anywhere else.  Only Texas has a state government more dysfunctional (not that we care much), so if you're into all that 'state money' stuff, it's hard to find.  I'm sure there are other places with the kind of Mediterranean climate that I love.  (The Mediterranean just as one example.)  And, it's not for everyone.  It's a pretty adult state.

Good thing I will have all of those provisions before I move there.  I'd chose Cali over S.C. anytime.
