Hello

I'm not really sure what I'm feeling right now, its kind of stupid to be honest. But I just booked in an appointment with a new GP that I have not seen before (made sure that he was transgender friendly) and I'm going to see him just after this weekend and going to ask him to refer to the gender clinic near me. I'm quite excited/kind of nervous since I have never told anybody about me be trans face to face. So I hope all goes well, but the staff were very friendly when I spoke to them on the phone saying that all there doctors there are trans friendly and one of their main focuses is trans health.

I know its kind of stupid that I'm so excited, but this is going to mark the start of the new me And I just had to share with somebody

How did you first feel when you went to somebody to start your transition?

I'm guessing I may have over reacted since there have been no replies

You have to allow for the time difference seeing we are all over the globe Brittany, and sometimes threads seem to hide in cyberspace for a while too.  How, I don't know.

Congratulations on taking the first step.  Being excited and nervous is perfectly understandable as you have never done this before and sound like you are looking forward to letting your inner self free.  It sounds like you have a good setup locally, with a Gender Clinic nearby too.  My Gender Thereapist and Endocrinologist are both 2 hours away.

I was nervous and excited when I first discussed my situation with my GP too. But I also felt compelled to do it, like I was slowly and inexorably rolling down a train track with no way to stop until I reached my destination.  There was no alternative path for me, I had to do it, and knew I would be happier when I got there.

Well done Brittany - it's a big deal to tell someone who you are and what you want, especially when they're someone who's involved in helping make that happen, so no wonder you feel excited. I was really anxious before meeting my new GP for the first time to tell her, but she was great (I'm in the UK, by the way). I hope your meeting goes well!

When I was young nobody ever heard of "transsexual" and although everybody knew I was "different", nobody quite knew what to make of me. From childhood I said I was/wanted to be a girl and the first shrink I saw said I was delusional. At the age of 16 (1966) I heard of Dr. Benjamin in New York and went to see him. He was the first professional I ever saw who understood and who believed me! Without that affirmation, I never would have survived and been able to start HRT at 17 and have surgery at 24.

Having someone, anyone on your side and supporting you can be VERY important!
