All right, cool. I mostly saw discussion of how to track progress and stuff so I figured I'd ask and be sure rather than kind of crash the party, so to speak, haha.

I can share progress and stuff, but I don't know as I could be too systematic or anything and really keep up with it in any sort of organized manner. That said...I'd be more than happy to cheer others on and offer encouragement and congratulations. I've also worked out for a good amount of my life (even power lifted for a time), I'm just trying to get back into it, and I try to educate myself on things like this, including healthy eating, so I feel confident in saying that I could contribute there.

QuoteI would think we should start as Susans guys only, at least at first, and maybe re-think new members later depending on how its working.

I'd have to say I agree with this. I think at least in the beginning we should keep it more close to the Susan's family. If it turns out we're all going really well and it gets a lot of interest, then we can always open it up to more people later. :)

@Noah G. : Awesome, sounds like you'll fit in just fine with what the community is being designed for. :) As to the progress thing, most of the people who will be doing it have lives/school/work, so I'm sure there will be a few people who find it hard to keep up with the week to week style progress report, but it hasn't been set in stone or anything. I think if people update when they can it will still be of great benefit to them. :)

Alright so I created the group, but there isn't anything there yet.  I'm going to watch Lady Gaga on sytycd and after that, I'll work on it some more and post the link here.

I agree that it should be for Susan's members first and then later, think about opening up the membership a bit.  However, I'd like to stress that it isn't a Susan's group.  It is a group for Susan's members.  Does that make sense?

Makes sense to me.

And Max, good to know for sure that I won't be crashing the group and progress updates aren't set in stone. But who knows, maybe it'll motivate me to keep track of things a little -- or at least give it a shot. Eh, I'll figure it out. I'd be one of those people though -- working and going to school (I can't really say that I'd have a life because as of yet...I don't, haha). Maybe though if keeping track of progress isn't frustrating I'll be better at it, though probably still not in any sort of truly organized way if that makes sense. We'll see, I guess.

Since this forum is public, maybe link should be shared via PM so that we know members are joining.  Just an idea for extra security.

Count me in! I have no idea how to work LJ but I'll try to figure it out cuz I'd really like to get in shape, yet lack much motivation and this should hopefully help.

awesome, i can't wait. i've been on livejournal in the past, but i'll make a new account if possible, seeing as my old account is out dated and was used for fanfic related stuff.

thisll be cool =)
and this lj group will be able to be private, so no one can see into it unless theyre a member right?
and i forget if it's possible, but i hope members for the group have to be 'screened' first and approved by the group admin or something first, so no strangers/trolls come in.

Battling lj right now to get the intro post up.  The formatting will just have to wait because their server is so messed up at the moment.  So it'll look ugly, but it's a start.

The membership will be screened, yes.  I've decided not to post the link here (thanks Jigsaw) and will PM it to those who have expressed interest either in this thread or through PM.  The comm will be as private as I know how to make it (locked entries, moderated, and screened membership, etc).  If someone knows how to make it even safer, let me know and I'll fix things.

ETA:  I finally got it to work and posted the welcome message.  I have to get some sleep soon though, but tomorrow I'll work on things some more and send out the PMs.

It's really great that so many of you guys have said you want to participate! I was a little worried when I originally posted about this that no one was going to be interested and I'd look like a loser. :P And don't worry guys, I've not used LJ before either, we can all learn about it together. ;) I'm super keen for this, I really need the kick up the bum it will hopefully provide to start doing the right thing. :P

Until it's set up, how would people prefer to go about this? Should it be a group effort, as in we all agree on set exercises, times, food etc, or does everyone want to go at it their own way and see how it goes for them? :) I suppose it all depends on what people want to get out of this. A relatively easy to follow, free plan might work out the best in the long run because everyone is dealing with the same amount of effort etc, but if some people want to work out a lot harder and build muscle more quickly, then individual plans might be the go. Alternatively we could go half way between the two and set down easy, medium and hard level plans that people could follow depending on what they wanted to do. What say you guys?

I hope everyone is enjoying the last day or two of freedom before we get down and dirty! ;)

And we should all say a great big thank you to Adio as well, since he's taking the time to set everything up for us! :D

We could do a  "I'm doing a ___ plan this week, who wants to join me" sort of thing.  That would leave more options for people who want to work on different things.
Oh I'm a lucky man to count on both hands the ones I love

I'm interested, but I'm busy flying/moving in the next couple of weeks, and my internet connection is irregular at best. But I've been wanting to start moving in a fitter direction, maybe this will be the boost I need :p

This sounds great! I'm just about to start working out again, so it would be great to have some motivation to help me along!

For me, I'd prefer to follow my own workout plan rather than exercises set down by the group, but I'd enjoy sharing my exercise routine and nutrition ideas etc,  and giving others encouragement   :)

I don't think I've ever been this excited to start getting healthy (and lose all that cake fat I gained, lol)

My vote too is for individual workouts, especially as different guys may have different goals in mind. Perhaps that could be part of keeping track though? Posting the workouts and if they're not noticing the changes they want, feel something isn't quite working, or whatever else people can suggest other exercises that either they have found works for them or else that they have come across.

I vote for individual workouts but with the group support and encouragement as well as accountability. Just because with each of us we all have different lives and such. But I think we should all put our current stats when we start and some before photos for those who feel comfortable, and goals that we want, and what exercise and eating changes we are going to do. Maybe our vices too, just to put them out to each other so we can work better and see more results?

I am interested though I just have to wait to see if I even can work out again and what exercises I can do. It's really frustrating because I started doing P90X then had something f*** up in my eye so I see my eye surgeon in a few weeks.
The story is the same, I've just personalized the name.
  •

Ryno

haha, this is a great idea. I'm in.

I say individual workouts too. Base the competition on how much you've improved rather than who does the most push ups, sit ups, etc.

yeah,  i agree it should be more of a 'individual' type of work out, as some guys might like doing different things, or some might have excersize machines and some not, that sort of thing. though the motivation should still be there so i think something like a certain goal of working out a certain amount of time each day or week will be good ^ ^
