I know  this is all in the future but its a subject thats worrying myself and my son. Soon i will be able to get my gender recognition certificate and my birth cert changed so for all intents and purposes my sons mother will cease to exist. So.... When it comes to official forms, bearing in mind im not on his birth cert as his father what happens? Like when he gets married and has to provide his birth certificate i ll be on there as his mother but does he put his mother as living or deceased? Dont want to get it wrong legally

Silly question, since when do you get asked if your parents are alive when you get married?

On the form i had to fill out for the registrar when i got married it asked for names of both parents last occupation and whether they were living or deceased

No, it's true, you need to know both of your parents names, dates of birth, and places of birth to get married and for a passport, I think. I know there are other things though besides marriage, in which you need to name both of your biological parents to do.

on most of the legal documents ive had experience with, they actually say "parent/legal guardian #1" and #2 and then asks for the sex of each so it really shouldn't be a problem. the passport application says "name at birth", but as long as you get your name changed on your birth certificate, he can put the male corrected name. i asked the passport office employee about this and she said the "name at birth" thing was really just a different way of asking for a maiden name or something (a married woman's birth certificate reads a different name than the legal ids she got post-marriage).

My guess would be to handle this the same way one you would if you were adopted by two gay parents.  Then you also wouldn't have a mother.  I would just cross out "mother" and put "father".  Then you'd have two fathers, but I would think that would be okay.

but it's just a guess.  I don't actually know.

most legal documents in the united states ask for the sex/gender of each parent or guardian. i would assume it is the same case in most western countries.

Married 3 times and never been asked about my parents.
