I have to fly tomorrow, all male documents

Ugh, I have a flight tomorrow to go visit my father-in-law. All my ID's are still male which I haven't changed yet for legal/money reasons. I'm not really looking forward to it, but I hope it won't be too bad. I'd like to think that major airlines are pretty progressive. Still, the idea of being routinely outed to a bunch of strangers isn't that appealing.

Airlines progressive... maybe.

TSA progressive...

Good luck, hope things turn out well.

Yeah... TSA doesn't strike me as the most progressive operation around.  Shouldn't be any problems after you pass them, but I wish you luck with the Rubber Glove Gestapo!

I flew 3 months ago to Philadelphia, 2 legs each way. I was in Female presentation, male ID only. Absolutely no problems, absolutely no "ENJOY YOUR FLIGHT MR _______!" They have seen everything, are trained, and if not trained, soon learn not to react to whomever walks up to their counter or plane. Relax, smile, be responsible in your behavior, and enjoy your flight.

PS - The ID now matches the body and the presentation. Thank God!

The airline will likely never SEE the license.  Book online, do online check-in, no checked bags...makes flying much easier even without you having to deal with what you describe.  Only if you are checking bags will an airline employee generally ever ask for an ID to be produced.  Granted, (in)SecureFlight will mean that the name on the ticket has to match the ID that the Theatre d'Securidad Absurd (TSA) smurfs will look at when they make their squiggle on your boarding pass...

ROFLAO!  That absolutely nails the whole "War on terror" nonsense and the rent-a-cop mentality of modern "security".

I had to do the same into the US a couple of months ago, and I will do again next month.  I've changed my name legally but have booked flight tickets now, so I can't change the passport.  Plus I want to wait for the HRT to kick in a bit more plus possibly FFS before I get the photo taken.

It's never fun at that moment when immigration are taking your photo, but they're very professional and they don't say a word.  Two minutes later and you're done.

Just another one of those fun things that we have to deal with that the rest of the world wouldn't even consider.

Good luck.

Siobhan.

I am! I'm in San Francisco and enjoying it much more than Texas already. Consequently, if anyone has any recommendations of things to do here I'd love to hear them.
