Ugh, so my friend likes this guy, but she just wants him to ask her out. She said that guys are the ones that are suppose to make the first move, which sounds really stupid. Is there something wrong with asking the guy out? Would he get weirded out or something? Is she just being silly? I just think that expecting him to do all the work could be a waste of patience.

What can I say but, dumbest idea since I decided I should try to be a boy!

If there is one thing I did learn as a teenager, it is that guys would just love to have a girl they like, make the first move.  Gives their egos a real boost, and they will be ever so grateful!   Also steals a march on all the other girls he might be thinking of asking.

I had this same discussion with a girl at my lunch table a few years ago in high school. Me and my best friend tried to tell her that most guys actually want the girl to ask them out, but she went off saying how unromantic it was, to which my best friend and I both disagreed. She ended up making a point out of it by bothering the guy she wanted to go out with until he finally asked her out, and boy was she pushy about it! Imagine being in high school and having some freshman girl (when you're a senior, but she's actually pretty cute) up in your face all the time and dropping HUGE hints that she wants to go out with you without actually saying it. She would have saved a lot of time and effort if she just asked him out instead of messing around like that, at least I think so.

I think regardless of whether I was a male or female, I would want to be the one asked out. I'm just too shy to go up to someone and ask them out myself . I hated being the one who was expected to make the first move every time when I'm such an introvert.

I sort of agree with Karen,

BUT - better be OK with some rejection and if so, don't think like jumping in the lake.
If the guy doesn't "bite" give him a miss.

Guys DO NOT LIKE BEING CHASED by a girls, we are generally better in shaking off (not shagging, eh) a ->-bleeped-<-.

True, stalkers are not nice, regardless of the circumstances. However  if she knows the guy is really interested, but  she is pretty sure that he doubts  his own chances?
In that case  he will be doubly impressed.

no hating me but me and all my girl friends have the same idology i know most of you girls don't but we will never ever ask out a guy because we feel its like well if he can't even ask me out well then his loss and etc we are just weird that way but i mean really you girls should know betta than judge another girls ideals i mean really every girl is allowed to have a opinion boys not so much... lol joking joking calm your butt down

   Cuz it's like a way for girls to find out if a guy is really interested or not. I don't think he would be weirded out, guys are kinda lazy so not having to do much work is probably a plus in his mind.


   I dated a few girls when i was younger and they always had to make the first move. Eventually i became more and more attracted to guys and just like ignored any girls trying to flirt with me.
   

That was one of the worst aspects of being perceived as a guy. I'd never make the first move, and just the thought of having to do so makes me lose interest. I wouldn't want to be with someone who expects me to take a male role, because I can never do that.

Ask but part of the asking is be ready for rejection. And while I have know guys who ask a girl out over and over and over before she finally gives in, I think a girl should ask once and if he says no, move on..

Hmm, sure it's OK for girls to ask guys out. In fact, I think it's preferable.. And as for those saying, no it's a guys job.. Get with it, this is 2011, not 1951, women that came before us fought hard for equality - use it..
