I was talking to my mum for the first time in awhile and after I hung up I realized that she was still calling me by a few nicknames she'd had for me since I was a baby. I hate the feeling of being emasculated but I for one can't blame her too much--she knows nothing about the possibility of me being trans.

So, I ask you guys; what are some of the stupid nicknames your parents gave you, and how do they make you feel as a man?

Princess, Pumpkin, and Nina (little girl) are the three most used by my mum.

Pumpkin here too. I've never heard someone call a boy that but I actually don't mind it at all. It's a good deal better than Princess at any rate, sorry you gotta hear that one man. My mom has called me pumpkin for as long as I can remember so I guess I'm attached to it. She has a special nickname that she calls my brother too. After I came out she stopped using feminine nicknames when talking to me, but pumpkin stayed, so I really don't associate it with a gender, it's just...me. Maybe since your mom has several nicknames for you she could get used to the idea of adding a new one that fits more with your identity and try to drop the other ones.

Well I haven't come out to her in any way ever, so I can't blame her for the names. I don't know, I haven't bother trying to stop her because it doesn't bug me til that point. It just feels like I should put on a pretty pink tutu and dance around though.

Which would be...sick. xDD

On another note, Pumpkin seems to be the universal nickname because some of my cis-guy friends are stuck with that name as well. It doesn't make me feel so bad. :'D

for a while my mom couldnt call me parker, but instead of calling me by my birth name she called me peanut which i prefer and it has been my nickname forever. she no longer calls me peanut anymore. now a ton of people call me parky. and one girl calls me hun and some others call me sweetie. i dont really mind.

It bugs me when guys in my family call my honey. I accept it from women because when I was in the South a lot of women call everyone hun or honey. But to call your son or nephew honey is a bit awkward.

Missy.

GOD I hate that! I hate it so much! I also am now getting 'Maxi' from people, which SERIOUSLY pisses me off. It's Max! It's short enough already, why the hell do they feel the need to make it longer and feminine?! Blah!! And my boss at work likes to call me 'Miss Max' because apparently she thinks the alliteration is amazing. She's dropped it now though thankfully.

I come from an area where everyone addresses anyone younger as 'Hun,' and cos I work in a place where we have a huge older customer base I get called 'Hun' pretty much all the time.  It's quite gender neutral, but the unfortunate thing is that when someone says 'Thanks, Hun' it's completely indistinguishable from 'Thanks, Son,' so I never know when I'm passing, LOL! :-\ Occasionally there's an instance where an 's' doesn't precede the endearment and I'll get a 'There you go, Son,' or 'Can I have some change please, Son,' which is wonderful, but the rest of the time I can't weed out the 'Sons' from the 'Huns' - incredibly frustrating, LOL!

It also makes you feel like a follower of Attila, but there's not much you can do about that :P

My mom used to call me "MaG-ina Maria"

I dont think there were any other girly nicknames though

wait, looking at the thread reminded me of some, my mom did call me "missy" and when i did something good, she would say like a owner says to a dog, "good GIRL" ugh

My mom used to call me peanut, and boo, or boo-bear. Not terribly gendered. Guess I got lucky.

Hmm...I never had any family nicknames except for when I was very, very young.  Apparently I had a pair of sunglasses that I wore all the time.  My mom ended up calling my "Cool Baby" for about 2-3 years lol

I did have a therapist who called me a shortened version of my old first name.  It was a very feminine nickname and it bothered me a bit, but I never had a nickname before so I let it slide.

My dad sometimes uses Miss Kim or Kimmy dearest.  I really hope those go away when I come out to him...

My whole extended family on my mother's side always used to call me "Cinty" (shortened version of the end of my original name), and when I say always I mean flat out! I moved to another state so I don't see them at all anymore, but speak to them sometimes. They have been pretty good though - only heard it a handful of times since coming out. I always used to hate it but never had the balls to say so - and I guess after the first few years I thought it was too late to ask them to stop lol!

I guess I got lucky at home I was always Dad's little mate or Mum's little helper etc - never Dad's little girl, missy etc. My Dad used to call me Jac (shortened version of the start of my original name) and he still does sometimes but its really gender neutral - half the time when I tell people my name they think I've said Jack or James anyways!

I also have a few guys I used to know at my old sporting club who calls all chicks sweetie/sweetheart - again I moved away so don't see them often, but there's one bloke who still does it. He's picks up on it and says sorry etc - I just told him now I'm growing facial hair (well trying!) and looking a lot more manly that people are going to think he's crazy, or gay. Think that kind of got through - he's a big biker looking dude :D lol

Let's see... my mother used : babygirl, sweetheart... those are the only two I can remember, and I have to say, I'm more than happy that she finally got out of the habit of saying them!

My mom used to use Missy and "girl", but she stopped after a few months after I came out. She freaks out when she accidentally says "girl", because I refuse to talk to her for hours at a time... she tries to correct herself to "man", "dude", etc. -- words I use, which sound hilarious coming from her because of her accent. XD

My granny calls me "Risha". She's completely deaf, but the Alabama School for the Deaf (I think is what it's called) taught her to speak when she attended. She can't say my birthname, Risha is as close as she can get. I don't mind it too much, since I've never associated with my birthname.

My granddad calls me shug (sugar), baby, sweetheart... annoying, but he calls my younger male cousins that sometimes, so I'll take it -_-;; I'm out to him, but he's one of those "not 'til the operation" people.

My dad used to call me my birth middle name, Lasha (Luh-shay), like he calls my sister by hers, Marie. He sticks with my birthname, sometimes flipping to my preferred name -- but not often.

My best friend uses Chris-chan. No points for guessing what my birth name was... XD hint, he isn't calling me anything different.

In my family we tend to just say random things that fall out of our mouths and create nicknames that make little to no sense. So things that start with 'Little Miss' or end with 'girl' regardless of what came first or after is really annoying, and it still happens. My older sister doesn't get the same treatment, I get it because I'm the baby of the family. My parents used to take my birth name and add that 'ee' sound to the end of it which is really feminizing and babying. - This treatment however seems to be happen more now than ever.  >:(

Other than that I don't really know if my main nicknames were feminine, like Munchkin....

When I was in school my sisters friends used to call me Squirrel girl, this was because at the time my two front teeth had come in and I liked to bite people like some wild animal and climb trees, I remember I didn't hate the similarities I had with squirrels but I hated the name squirrel girl. But yeah, mostly people just called me brat, or Mickey/Mickey Mouse.

Oh a good friend of mines mom used to call me Jane because of George of the jungle, I was kind of crazy like George, wild in fact, so rather than calling me George, they used the girls name, from what I remember though she wasn't all that wild, kind of prim and proper looking. Also my friends dad used to call me little boy. - He had no idea how happy I was every time he did that. And he said it on almost a daily basis! I remember trying to even sound offended but I would smile so hard and my day would just be set in the right direction, so I couldn't even pretend I felt any other way. I never liked the name Michael but the one or two times he said it, it felt a lot better than my birth name and calling me a boy all the time was just icing on the cake as a carefree child! Oh and he'd also ask "Who's that boy?" All the time while looking at me. :P I freaking miss him, and I even miss my friends mom, more so  than I even miss that friend!

Pudnik.

I have NO clue where that one came from. My only guess is that it's some Ukrainian thing, even though my mom was British. My dad's Ukrainian so maybe she picked it up from his family. She shortened it to "pud" (pronounced like the 'o's in good, not like in "silly puddy)

I liked it until puberty. That may have been just one of those embarrassing mom things, rather than an insecure gender thing, because when I think about it, neither "pud" nor "pudnik" sound overly gendered. (this is where I'll learn "pudnik" is Ukrainian for "princess" or "sweety-muffin-lumpkin-cake".)

Now that my mom's gone I kind of miss being her pud. I would probably punch my dad in the gut if he ever called me that. (Not actually... that would probably hurt our struggling relationship.)

My parent's still call me sweet-pea, Katie-Bug, missy, Katie-Lady, and Little-Lady...I haven't told them it really bothers me but I'm pretty sure those names are ridiculously feminine...No one calls me anything aside from my name and it's many variations, but it's getting more and more aggravating because I have such a feminine name. ;-;
