Apollo 18

It's rather a good film, I didn't go in with any pre-conceptions.  I'd read that a few places had given it bad reviews but that could have been because it wasn't shown early to the critics and they seem to mark a film down heavily for that regardless of the content and quality.  The film is presented as an assemblage of raw film stock recovered in secret from a secret moon landing, Apollo 18, which was apparently sent to the moon to plant spying equipment on the moon to monitor the soviet union.  I liked how they found a similarly secret russian moon landing mission, it was a counterpoint and advanced warning to the apollo astronauts.  The grainy film stock, heavy use of shadows and monochrome really adds to the atmosphere.  The tension builds through the plot and the story is told by the actors really giving it their all so that the audience connects with the characters so that by the end we're hoping that they get out of things ok, but they go to their fate with all the terminal weight of history forcing them into oblivion.  The ending footage of the pre-launch BBQ party allows us one last look back to the three young heros and their families while we're told of their 'official' deaths to cover up the truth.  All in all I rather liked it and I'll get it on blu-ray when its released.

"Attack On The Block", innit.

Was appalled by the portrayal of my local neighbourhood. It's not that bad, it's far worse!

Hatchet II. I love horror movies. It had me jumping at first but towards the end it became more comedic than anything else.

I had a date with this guy and we went to see Straw Dogs. It was decent, I expected more though ;)

just watched I love you Phillip Morris last night. it was pretty funny in some parts, serious in others. there are twists in it you won't expect, i really didn't and it was really well acted, there's some powerful emotion there. then seeing Jim Carey having sex with anyone is kind of jarring...but not too bad. they only show the waist up. it's about love which is awesome.

Bridesmaids.

It was good until I asked myself if I would have paid to watch it. The answer was a very firm no.

Burn After Reading was the last movie I saw. The first time I watched it I was very high and it didn't make any sense, so I watched it again sober. It still didn't make sense. I had to look up the plot on IMDB.

I also saw Insidious before I watched Burn After Reading. I liked Insidious, I thought it had a good plot and it was easy for me to understand, which is good. There were also some nice scary parts, which I like. If you like scary movies you should watch Insidious.

"Libertarias", a film about the feminist anarchists (Mujeres Libres) during the Spanish Revolution of the thirties. Fantastic film, cannot recommend it highly enough. In the times we are living all would do well to watch it. It made me cry my eyes out as it's the subject closest to my heart. Am still crying.

I watched Amélie last night, I liked it, but I wish it was dubbed instead of subtitled. I felt like I couldn't really watch the movie because I kept having to read dialog.

I love Amelie, I like it with subtitles, cos I prefer having the timing that goes with the actions.

Last film I watched was Total Recall, great fun and silly as.

Dubbing is horrendous, in Italy virtually every single film was/is dubbed and as there are only a few people who work in the dubbing sector the same voices come up in most films which makes things really weird. Even musicals were dubbed apart the singing which is even weirder.

Subtitles let us watch films from around the world which the industry would never ever spend money on dubbing.

The new Winnie the Pooh movie. I loved it! Reminded me so much of my childhood. And, the music was done by Zoey Deschanel, so it was fantastic!

Saw two in one night

Remember Me:  Pattinson's role is better in this than Twilight, and it's a great romance.  Love the twist.

Inception:  Pure genius.  Total mind****.  One of the best movies ever.

Watched 'flatliners' last night. Didn't like the direction - too much coloured light, stagey sets, non-diagetic smoke and weird angles.

"In Time."  People genetically engineered to stop aging at 25, but then have a clock that counts down one year...  but more time is used as currency, so you can extend that clock and the rich are effectively immortal.  It was neat to see what they could do with such a crazy concept. :D
