Every November 20, communities across the nation observe Trans Day of Remembrance, memorializing those who have died in the previous year as a result of transphobic violence. But out of that 14-year tradition has grown a month-long focus on both remembering the trans community's dead and celebrating its living.

In conjunction with Trans Awareness Month, and anchored by Trans Day of Remembrance, local queer and trans organizations are hosting a wide range of events including a candlelight vigil, workshops, photo and art exhibits, a resource fair and an auction to benefit gender-variant children and teens.

I'll be at PSU's TDoR events

I'm going with my daughter to the candlelight vigil, but I'm not sure what else I'll be able to go to. She doesn't behave well in crowds for very long, and a lot of the grownup discussions can be both too boring and too sexual for kids.

Hey, though, say hi if you see me! :D

I'm reading the intro to the names at the vigil, so come find me and say hi after!

After we got home and my daughter took off the puppy suit and parted with the giant jar of peanut butter, she was talking about the vigil and said something I thought was kinda cool: "All those transgender people died, but it felt like we were the ghosts."

Yup, you too. My daughter was sure you were cis, by the way. I don't know if that's insensitive or to be taken as a compliment.

I think it's a compliment  ;D

Hopefully none of the adults sincerely thought that though...lol
