Transphobia isn't merely hate.  Transphobia is an inherent, structurally imposed erasure and devaluation of transness.

When there are only two gendered bathrooms, that's transphobia.  When varsity athletics (or, for that matter, professional athletics) exclude people on the basis of their transness, that's transphobia.  When people make casual references to the inherency of gendered behaviors, reduce genders and sexes to mere genitalia, and gawk at the few trans* people of whom they are aware, pointing out flaws in their "gender façade", that's transphobia.  People are transphobic because the frameworks in which they grew up are transphobic, but they're still transphobic.
