As you know, Jan 1 is around the corner and of course, one of my new year resolutions is to work out and get back into shape (I want to get a 6pack for a show I will be doing in June).

Now that I ve started hormones 2 months ago, I am not sure how to approach going to the local gym such as Gold's or 24 Hours Fitness, because of the locker room dilemma plus WHAT TO WEAR!

It is going to be difficult/uncomfortable to tuck if you are bouncing up and down on an aerobic step or running on a treadmill, getting all sweaty. Not to mention you ll be drinkign a lot of water and if you are on Spiro, then that means more and more time consuming trips to the bathroom and untucking/tucking/untucking...

I am afraid of my sport bra looking unnaturally "unbouncy" as well since my breasts have not grown in yet.

What about you guys? Are you guys working out at your local gyms? Before/after? During?

I've wonder how to deal with this as well. I work out 1-2x a week ( should do more but hectic work schedule). As for what to wear I'd go neutral until unable to pass as male but that's just me.

Would it be considered polite to approach the club's management and explain that you plan to use whichever dressing/locker/shower room?
NOT out
NOT on hormones

How long are you going to be there for? ??? :o Surely you won't need to go to the bathroom more than once.

are you even wearing this outfit?

Seriously, more people around here gotta be going to the gym! Or at least thought about how to get around the challenges of attending one while still in transition...

Missed this.

I go to the gym about 3 times a week. I don't do classes, I use the aerobic room, bikes, cross trainers, rowing, tread mill etc then move to the weight room area.

My weights have dropped totally since I started HRT, but they keep me toned. I just ask a guy to change the weights for me if they are too heavy, I find that it is that amusing that weights I used to lift I know ask someone to help me with.

I have to admit my gym is close to home so I change and shower at home. I wear a T and gym trainers, same as the other girls.  I'm no fashion statement but very few of the girls are. No idea what it is like in classes.

I started in the gym when I was full time male, I'm now female, no one has had any sort of hissy fit.

I have had one incident  in my early days when someone (male) came up to me and started to say nasty stuff, I got upset and started to cry . Two very large men whose names I did not know , at the time, just walked over said something to him and I have never seen him since.

I keep myself to myself, but I'm friendly and open. But it is a gym and not a pick up spot, and it might sound silly but I think the guys like it that way. Then again as I said I do not do classes just an individual program. I have to admit that very few of the woman talk to each other either, it is an exercise place. I don't mean to sound it is unfriendly, it isn't, it is a place we work out.

I like it and I enjoy the feeling of being fit.
I've never been a community exercise person. I hate team sports etc.

But go and do it and enjoy.

No, I can't afford a gym membership and the gyms in my area tend to be more of a dating and show off site for the younger set  :P  I have however obtained some exercise equipment of my own plus I ride my bicycle regularly  :)

Funny thing I have a room setup in my house now, used to go daily, now I only go to the gym for the pool.......... twice a week

nope, never ever have.  With my metabolism and how much I move around at work keeps me plenty in shape and skinny enough, maybe even too skinny.

I don't like the gym for the reasons you mentioned. I either use the local high school's track or use the treadmill at home. I also have my own dance studio at home that I use to sweat my butt off. That's about it.

Yes, but only if I'm not working.  If I have two or more shows in a week I don't need it.

I've let my body go since I started transitioning. I am 5 lbs over what I should be. I love Gold's gym...My ex b/f's used to work there. My god, I miss working out in the Castro.

lol, there is a lot of eye candy to google at in the gyms in Castro for sure.

So for you guys who actually go to the gym right now, how are you handling the tucking/bra issue?
  •

Cindy

Not sure what the problem is.

I tuck and I wear a bra.

???? like the other Cindy said I tuck and wear a bra, because I change in the locker room I have a natural color gaff that allows me to keep the flat smooth area while changing?? I swim in a one piece speedo suit It's an indoor lap pool I save the bikini for the beach ;-)

Well, I think having a ponytail and boobs that can flop up and down while running on the treadmill is pretty convincing than trying to work out with a wig or being flat-chested, heh...

I alternate between swiming (.5K) and running 1-3 K every other day. Have to do it or else

So, if you swim, do you do it in a private pool or in a public pool?
