I just found the binders. My boyfriend currently uses duct tape and I dont think thats good for him. I'm looking at Underworks 998, 988, and 978. Are these really effective? Or can you recommend any?

Duct tape is definitely not the way to go.  I used Underworks for several years, probably had around 7-8 binders total.  All of mine were the 997 (double front) and I loved them.  My chest size was originally DD and I used a large.  Very effective for me.

Whether a binder will work depends on several factors including chest size.  The cotton ones (like the 978) seem to work better for smaller chests but not larger ones.  The tri-top seems to be the best for large chests.  I'm not sure about the 998, but the 988 seems to be like the 997 just with targeted compression (chest only).

For more reviews and info, if you go to google and type in "site:susans.org underworks" (without quotes), you'll find some good info.  You can add on whatever number or name and search that way as well.  For example, typing "site:susans.org underworks 998" will return 31 results mentioning that binder.

I dislike underworks.

I use lesloveboat binders.

One of the benefit I've noticed to Underworks binders (or at least the double front compression shirt) is that it's comfortable enough to wear for several days. Most transguys say not to bind for several days, but I've done this and have yet to face any complications and  it does flatten my chest out significantly; the only uncomfortable thing I've noticed about this binder is it occasionally will slide around and roll up in areas, which is not usually too big a deal, but occasionally it's enough to make it more obvious that what is underneath my shirt isn't actually a nice set of pecs.
My first binder was a lesloveboat binder, and I can't say I remember it binding much better than my Underworks binder...if anything, I remember it binding worse. I could have ordered the wrong size, but even then, I never felt even remotely flat with this binder on and if someone were to touch my chest by accident, it would have definitely felt like there was significant breast tissue there. The color was a problem, but that was more of personal mistake. I chose to get a black binder, but soon realized I could not wear it with any of my lighter t-shirts without looking entirely ridiculous. Lastly, the binder I had was uncomfortable, because of the Velcro. I know that not all binders by this company are Velcro binders, but I seriously have a bad experience with binders that are made this way, just because readjusting my binder often puts me at risk for a pair of nicely scratched up knuckles (and often underarms from a day of wearing one). I don't know if anyone else likes these types of binders, but they are certainly not for me.
I recently ordered a v-neck binder from Peecock Products without realizing that it used some Velcro on the side and also ordered the wrong color (black -.-), but I have to say that it actually bound me really well...in fact, even better than my Underworks binder. But it's still uncomfortable and I had to take it off after a few hours of wearing it and this wasn't because I was all "help, I can't breathe", but because my skin was getting irritated from the Velcro that, without exaggeration, had the texture of extremely coarse grit sandpaper.
In my opinion, if you want your boyfriend to feel comfortable, I'd get him a binder that fits like the double front compression shirt, because it's design resembles how an undershirt would look and therefore there is less concern about the outline or the binder showing up under a t-shirt and looking extremely "off". This is my opinion anyway. >_<

I just want to add that while I've never worn one of their binders, they seem to have pretty poor customer service. I ordered a binder from them in October, got told they didn't have that size in stock and to wait, but never heard from them again despite many emails on my part. And yet worst of all. I'm still binderless because I can't afford to chance losing more money trying to get the perfect binder. :(

My experiences are the opposite of Jason.
I find underworks very uncomfortable and bind much worse than love boat.

I think it comes down to personal preference, body shape, breast size, weight and height. So you'll find a lot of contradicting statements. The main sites most people order from are underworks, t-kingdom and lesloveboat.
I say just pick one and hope for the best lol, a lot of trans products end up being trial and error.

I do agree with this - everyone's experience is indeed different.
However, I felt my need to express my deep admiration for Velcro. lulz.

YES! Velcro makes it SOOOOOOOOO much easier to get the binder on and off and adjust during the day (which he will need to do)

Thanks guys. I ordered three different ones for him from Underworks. Hopefully something will work out for him, so we can stop spending money on duct tape all the time and he can quite ripping his skin with the duct tape. He is always worried someone will feel it at work. He works with a lot of girls and they can be very touchy. I know it stresses him out a lot. I'll keep my fingers crossed that these work for him.  :-\

I hope the best for you both and hope that you got his measurements right. Binder sizes are usually determined by averaging the largest point where the chest extends outward and the width right beneath the chest. I didn't know this the first time I ordered a binder and I'm pretty sure the size I ordered wasn't 100% correct because of that. >_<

I used an Underworks style 988.  I was around a large B cup.  I found it worked great and I could even wear just it because of the cotton overlay.  And I've used duct tape, a velcro back brace, ace bandages, heavy duty sports bras, compression shirts, etc.  And I personally found this style the most effective and least uncomfortable one.  I hated when I bound with random things that when people hugged me, I'm sure they felt it.  But with the underworks, it just felt like a tanktop under my clothes, if they noticed at all. My advice it to try it...it took me a long time and many trials of different things to find what I liked.

We got them in last night. He tried on the tank top one, but I think he needs a size bigger. I think it looked really good. You couldn't see anything. I don't know how he felt about it. I'm going to exchange It for a different style and a size bigger.
