I'm extremely confused by my bill... I'm getting 1 bill from my endo for $410. Another bill is from the hospital that the endo is in, that amount is for $433... I got lab tests for prolactin, estradiol, total T and CMP.

My question: should a simple visit to a doctor + lab tests cost nearly $850??? IDK if I'm being double billed. Surely a lab test isn't $433.. that just sounds absurd. I'd call them but every chance I get, it's when they're closed.

Umm, anybody have any experience with Willis Knighton?

EDIT: Okay, after looking at my bill(s) and looking at what I've paid (and what has gone thru my checking acct), the bill from the endo shows a credit / adjust of 155.55 ... so my bill (after insurance) comes to just over $600 ... and the $155 credit doesn't show under the insurance colum. Insurance covered 81 dollars for the bill from the hospital system.. so when you add everything up, it comes out to $843 ...

ANYWAYS ... $680 .. reasonable for a 30 minute visit with the doctor + lab tests?

Thank God I only see them once every 3 months...

You know, going back into my mental database of people that go to Willis Knighton, I've heard complaints that they DO double bill..

Well at least I've paid my endo off. She's the important one that prescribes me the pills that are covered 100% by my insurance :P

Thinking about it... it's like my endo charged 410 for everything, then realized that the lab tests were to be billed thru WK, then  WK charged me for the DR visit AND the lab tests...

400-500 sounds a lot more reasonable for a simple doctors visit + hormone results.... It's not like I'm being screened for cancer or something :P

Okay I called WK. They said the 433 is from lab tests only ... is that a reasonable amount to pay for labs? I'd think that's a little high. What does everybody else pay?

Blood tests are stupid expensive. My doc charges $85 for office visit + any tests he sends out. Seems like they charged me something like $140 for each item we asked to have checked. first round of blood tests was like $600. I started limiting what we check because in my case some of the test results seemed crazy and in contradiction to what my body was doing. I only have checked things we feel might be hazardous to my health. At least in my case, the Doc visits are very reasonable.

Look up the costs at http://www.privatemdlabs.com/. They usually have somewhat reasonable prices.  Just make sure you know every test your doctor is running. He is probably running more than you listed.  $400 is mot unreasonable for a thorough workout which includes a few hormones, liver function, and a bunch of other standard measures. It just depends on which rests are being run.

I looked up all the items that were listed to be tested on that site and they totaled to just over 200 dollars. I'm thinking that the hospital just gouged me. What is odd is the credit the endo gave me. I wonder if the 155 dollar credit was for the lab results that she would've been compensated for if the hospital was not the administer of the test. Either case, I think it'll probably be better on my part to look for a less costly lab.

I've asked the hospital to give me an itemized statement, so I'll get to the bottom of it. Estradiol, Total T, Prolactone, and CMP test all combined shouldn't cost $433 imo.

I've paid around $300 for just the "Total T + Free T" test alone... so that amount is not unheard of. Estradiol, Liver Function and Potassium cost considerably less. Estradiol runs me around $175 alone. It also depends on the lab. Quest and Lab Corp are the two biggest labs around me... and their rates can vary depending on which test in question.

I pay 30 dollars per doctor visis... and each blood test is about 5-10 dollars (so total something like 30ish dollars if they test a bunch of stuff). I don't have health insurance and am on a sliding scale thing (at the bottom of it because I'm a student).

I dunno, 800 dollars for basic stuff??! That just sounds kind of crazy... seeing the doctor in the emergency room costs you 300 dollars, your normal doctor shouldn't be so high....

(I'm in LA btw)

Amongst other things I run a Path lab, getting the bills wrong through Administration is common. Take the bill back to the hospital accounts dept and ask for it to be checked.

I asked for them to itemize everything and mail it to me. They told me they would. My next course will definitely be this. Thank you :)
