I was initially considering a laundry list of FFS stuff but decided to do just my nose and see how that turned out, as that was the part of my face that screamed guy to me. The shot on the left was pre op, the middle shot was a little over a week post op and the right shot is a little over 3 months post op. I'm extremely pleased with the results and don't plan to do anything else to my face. I'm sure a brow reduction, chin and lip work could improve me a little more, I'm not sure the expense and pain/recovery/risks would be worth the results on my face. I've seen a lot of bad lip jobs and for sure don't want that! The other thing we discussed was; doing chin work would require a tuck/lipo under the chin which would then make my adams apple more visible which would require surgery for that etc etc. I'm ready to say "This is good enough".

As far as the surgery went, I didn't do any bone work so had no splint or packing. The stitches inside my nose were irritating but they came out in about 10 days on their own. There wasn't much bleeding after the first day, the inside of the nose heals quickly. Also not a lot of pain post op either, one day of pain meds and then advil was enough. I had zero bruising and within 7-8 days I was able to put on some light makeup and go out looking fine. It did take me about a month to totally get over the anesthesia, felt dizzy when walking for any period of time etc. I slowly started to walk around more and once I was able to walk for 30 minutes, exercise seemed to flush this nastiness out of my system. Total cost in Atlanta, including everything from anesthesia, hospital and surgeon with all pre/post op visits included was under $5000

Wow Stephe that is incredible!  Such a difference.  I've often thought your profile pix was  a little off as far as passing goes but would not have said.  But dayum!  I'm so happy for you.  What a huge difference.  You look absolutely beautiful!  :)

Thanks!

I just wanted to show the before and after results of what a fairly minor surgery can do. I know some people do need more than I did, but I'm afraid some people get too obsessed with small details and assume they need more than they might be able to get away with. And sometimes working on one area will create problems in another. It's easy to get carried away. The Doctors WILL try to talk you into as much as they can.

I personally don't feel everyone needs $50-75,000 in surgery to look good/passable. I've seen some what I consider nice looking trans girls who would be very passable in RL (with a good voice etc) go under the knife and not look any more passable, just look different. I've seen some who did need a minor issue addressed (really bad chin or masculine nose) go "for the full boat" when some minor work would have solved their problems. If someone has the resources, clearly they can do whatever they want. But many people don't and assume it's one of these $75,000 deals or nothing, which isn't the case. For most people FFS which can make a huge improvement in their passability is very affordable.

Just so no one is confused in the future, that quote may be true for Dr. O but pretty much anyone else is going to be half or less.  And that is assuming you take every option they present.  I couldn't have spend $40k with Dr. Z if I tried, $35k might have been possible if I had gotten things I didn't want done.

Mexico is even cheaper.

*EDIT* please note I am not saying that everyone needs everything.  I agree fully that if you don't need something then don't have it done, but just in case we have someone reading that does need several things then why panic them with a $ that is way out of range *EDIT*
Blessed Be!

The point of my post wasn't an exact $ figure (I personally know 2 people who spend over $50,000 which is why I threw out those numbers) but that many of these surgeons are big into the up sell as reflected in a post just today "He bickered with me about several things I told him I didn't want until I gave in and let him keep going with the forceful upselling."

Don't let these guys talk you into work you might not -need-. We are all very self conscious of our looks and even at $25,000, that's over 5 times what I spent and likely way out of range of many people. Not only that, the risks involved in some of these more invasive procedures are real, as it the increased recovery time. Some of the things like cheek implants on certain people look good in a static picture but in RL look "strange".

I almost had been convinced I needed one of these "full Dr. O" type deals and after reading about the pain and recovery time etc, gave up hope on improving my appearance. Having my skull sawed apart wasn't something I was interested in. And I'm sure not a champion against these types of face overhauls. I just was trying to point out they might not be needed by everyone. Some of these surgeons WILL try to tell you it is. Some (not all of course) know we have a fragile self image that is easy to take advantage of.

YYMV on my advice as is always the case.

Firstly, I have to congratulate you on the very successfull surgery, which indeed made a huge difference.
In the before-pic, you, although looking fully "Yourself", did not look very passable(Atleast not in that specific pic). However, in the after-pic, you now look like a fully- quote- "normal" woman.

So, Concratulations. :)

However I disagree with the claim that the surgeon will always try to talk you into doing as much as possible just for the sake of it, as, in fact, it very much depends from Surgeon to Surgeon, and many surgeons will actually do the exact opposite.
Dr. Ousterhout, for instance, will rather try to talk his patients out of doing any surgery at all if he do not think they will need it.
However, he do say that he will give in if they insist, but, he will, as said, always try to talk the patient out of surgery if he form the opinion that the patient will be able to pass without it.

A good Surgeon, if professional, will point out features because those features are truly there, but that yet the patient might have been totally oblivious to, yet often wondered why she is so often clocked. In general, if the Surgeon is reputable, He/She will never talk you into doing something you will not actually need.

Very, very true!! I had a real life consult with dr Noorman van der Dussen in Belgium who advised me a nosejob, much to my astonishment.

Two years later I came with a friend to Chonburi to support her for her SRS and had a real life consult with dr Suporn who advised me a nosejob too!

The very, very strange thing about this 'advice' is that my natural nose IS short with a low, naturally scooped nosebridge.

Following their 'advice' would have left me disfigured ala Micheal Jackson..

It gave me the impression that FFS surgeons tend to tell what they think MTF's want to hear and earning a lot of money off of it.

I had a partial FFS with dr Chettawut late 2004 and he was the guy for me because of his honesty. He said: 'we won't touch your nose, it's gonna look unnatural'.

And he was so right about that! The first thing I saw after my forehead reconstruction was the line of my low nosebridge going over to my new, flat forehead in a very, very beautiful way and natural too.

So happy I didn't take the 'advice' dr NVDD and dr Suporn provided me with...and I needed a forehead 'flattening' only after all...

Stephe your nose looks great!  Actually all I really needed was a nose job but I got my whole face sliced up for big bucks.  One girl said you looked cute before and you look cute now.  Wow I spent so much money and I still hurt two months later.  Also surgeon up sold me on something I did not want but felt "defective" if I did not "agree".  Not been pleased with that last "extra" surgery and may pay to reverse it.  Imagine that paid for it and then pay again to reverse it when you never wanted it in first place.

is this the nose job you were talking about? Well sister, very well done. I am so happy for you :)

Stephe, you look great! One feature really stands out in all the pictures: Confidence. I believe it goes a long way in the world, and it shows in you. Hugs, Devlyn

im hoping to go to dr z ,   were you in a lot of pain despite the painkillers etc? or just discomfort? / felt akward
So as to not derail this thread any further, I'll just link to the thread where I talk about my FFS.

The quick answer is that I never had any extreme pain from the surgery recovery EXCEPT the fat injections while awake.
