My mother borrowed some money from me last month and promised to pay me back with $35 interest.  I got my money and interest today and she gave me an extra $40 on top of that.  She told me that she borrowed it from me last year without me knowing and she wanted to pay it back.  I had no clue that it was missing but she is a decent person so when she borrows from me I know she will pay it back.

I have a special case where I store some money to save for top surgery.  I put any unexpected money I get in this case.  I also have my main supply of cash for general purposes.

I am not too sure if I should put this extra $40 to my top surgery fund or my regular money.  I can make a case for both sides.

Since I had no clue that it was missing from a year ago and would have never noticed that it was gone until she told me that was "unexpected" for me.  On the other hand it was always my regular money to begin with so one could say it should go back into there.

I don't have any bills to pay and the only big thing I can see myself doing anytime soon with my general purpose money is maybe buying a car when I get my license and who knows when that will be so it's mostly used for video games for now.  On the other hand since I'm not working it may be best to just put it with my regular money in case an emergency or dental thing comes up but I'm on my mom's insurance.  I only have about $1500 to my name right now.

What do you guys think?

I think I have $20.89 in checking, 5.01 in savings, 7.65 in welfare, and 14.73 in my pocket, and my utilities and rent are paid but I didn't pay the installment to my orthopedic surgeon or my daughter's eye doctor. Even with those bills, if I got $40 I would find a way to use it to make life more livable. Lol I'd probably blow it on socks and cassette tapes, half of which would be lost or broken within a few months. ;D

But if I were like you and had all my bills paid, I would save it. It sounds like you already have good momentum on saving for top surgery. You'll feel so good and so relieved when you finally have your operation date.

You should start saving for a car, if you're not already.  Getting a car will give you more job opportunities once you're old enough (unless you live in a place with public transportation) and thus allow you to make even more money.
In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity.
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity.
If it's alright, then you're all wrong.
