I have heard that having biological other brothers increases the chance that guys will be gay but that this doesn't affect women.  Does anyone know if research has been done with this in relation to trans people?  I wonder if it affects us in the same way as cis men.

couldn't tell you for sure but i'm one of 7 kids. 5 brothers, 1 sister. my two older brothers are gay and then theres me. my family is one big LGBT anomaly.

The reasoning behind it is that with each male pregnancy, the mother's body produces more estrogen to counteract the fetus's testosterone (or some ->-bleeped-<- like that) and that slowly increases the chances of a gay kid. This only affects cismales. Remember, just a theory.

I love this subject because it confuses me yet I understand it so well because I have read so much on it. Unfortantly I have never come across anything in relation to trans people and this study of older brothers effects on the sexuality. I do not have any older brothers, just two sisters who kind of act like boys, and I am gay - predominantly. I honestly wonder how I turned out gay, if I carry a gay gene, or if in the battle of hormones that created me, the testosterone that forms a male brain did not finish the job and gave me half and half. I seriously think about this all the time, lol. It bugs me so much.

I dont know! Im a triplet (3 minutes apart from one another!) with two brothers who are, to my knowledge, both straight. They both have long-term girlfriends. We always hung-out with one another, were always put in the same classes all through preschool, primary school and secondary school. We went to the same university as well! But im currently transistioning and they're not. Weird, huh?

Well, I have four younger brothers related to me by blood. So, my Dad has four bio sons and a trans son. I am gay, the first brother is bi, the middle two are straight and the youngest is 2, so who knows. So, I have no clue. The theory is that there is a hormone switch in the mother after she has so many boys. But, I personally don't put too much stock in it. I mean, the eldest two are the ones who are gay/bi in my family. Would be interesting to read something on it though.

Yeah, I haven't seen any research on it, but oh well.  It's just me being curious.  Just to add my data to the topic I am bi, and I have one older brother who is straight.

Honestly, I've no full biological siblings. I do have three elder brothers, and four elder sisters.

As far as I am aware, all of my brothers are straight. I'm not sure if bicuriousity in one counts as anything, but he has never expressed the actual want to be with a man and is in a stable heterosexual relationship with a woman.

I consider myself bisexual, with a leaning towards women. I'm not sure on the standings of this theory, but I wouldn't mind seeing something on it!

I'm the oldest, and I'm straight. Second brother is gay. Third brother we are not yet certain, but no visible interest in girls. :| All I've ever heard him say about anyone's appearance is "that guy is ripped." Numerous times. But it could just be body envy. Suppose we won't know until he knows himself and wants to tell us.

I was talking with someone at internship about the whole lgbt thing and she told me she knew a family with 5 kids. Two of the boys are gay, one of the girls is a lesbian, one of the 'girls' trans (ftm) and the third girl was considered 'normal'.

I dont know how those are connected to the gay myth, but thing about testotorone should make your more or less gay also sound strange since that would mean everyone of us trans people who had homones would turn straight or what?

Sounds like "normal" is being redefined in that family.

I have two older brothers one is straight and one is gay.
My older sister is straight.

I have 1 full brother, 1 full sister, 4 half brothers and 3 half sisters (all older), and they're all straight/cisgendered.  I'm Bi/Trans...yup, who's the black sheep in my family?  Yours truly.

I'm the oldest of 5 (1 biological brother, 2 half brothers, and a step-sister) and as far as I know all my siblings are straight (the two youngest ones are 8 and 2 though so we'll see). Sometimes I really wish that one of them was at least gay and I know I shouldn't want one of my siblings to go through something that could possibly make them run into a lot of challenges in their life, but I really think it make my family more excepting of me.

I'm one of eight kids. The order is female, male, female, female, male, me, male, male. The second born female is a lesbian, an I think that's it.

Me, my brother, and my half-sister (all with the same dad) are all bi - and she's definitely kind of genderqueer.

Funny, I was just reading about this the other day. The whole 'less testosterone as pregnancies progress' thing caught my eye, and it absolutely could correspond to transgenders. They should definitely do a study on that, I'd love to read the results.

In other (semi)related news, I read an article on the effects of high T on babies in the womb. I wish I could remember the site now, but I remember one of the cool things they mentioned was how it affects your finger size. More T in the womb meant your ring finger was likely to be longer than your index finger. I remember that it mentioned something about sexuality as well, specifically that if the lengths were closer to equal, you were more likely to be straight... I'll have to hunt down the article. It had some cool theories.

If it's caused by less testosterone in the womb, wouldn't that kind of contradict being an ftm which should be caused by more testosterone in the womb

Hmm... if attraction to males is influenced by lower testosterone/higher estrogen levels during a separate developmental stage than when gender identity would be influenced, presumably in our case by elevated testosterone levels, then it wouldn't contradict.

Are firstborn trans guys or trans guys with no older brothers more likely to be attracted to females?

At any rate, we have to remember that both gender identity and sexual orientation are determined by many, many factors, and there is no reason even to guess that a guy is gay just because he has older brothers.
