So curious top surgery question, I googled but couldn't find much :/ if one has particularly large nipples I know they'll cut the areola down, but how do they make the nobly bit (wow I am uneducated) smaller?

Also, is there some reason they can't use a cookie cutter type thing to shape the areola? I've seem a lot that come out square looking, and that isn't something I want, but I'm looking into surgery options and yeah, curious.

for what they did to me, was as I remember to cut half part of the nipple off and then few it down. I dont know if they do that on all kinds of surgery but thats what they did in my case.

I haven't seen "square" areolas.  It's probably just scarring, some get thick, some stretch and distort a little.  Cis men have varied nipple and areolas too.  My dads areolas are very small, like nickle size, my brother on the other hand has silver dollar size areolas.

The way they change it depends on the surgery type.  If you have DI with nipple grafts, they cut a small circle of your areola and a small one of your nipple, sew them together and graft them to your chest.  Peri and similar procedures they cut slivers from the edge of your areola, as far as I know.

If I'm not mistaken, one technique surgeons use is to cut a wedge out, like a pie slice, and then they sew the sides together.

i think some come out "square" because they get stretched  and distorted but if you want to see how they resize nipples  watch this

I have a specific example but I don't think I should post the pic without consent, especially as its not something I'd be showing in a positive light, but there's a definite > shape to it

I think really my biggest problem is I'm not happy with the surgeons Australia has on offer, so I'll end up traveling that's ok though, no point changing my body if I won't be happy with it after.
