I don't know why people feel the need to keep bumping this instead of "men with cats".
Lulz.
So much better.

While I do love cats, I have got to admit I would choose MLP over them at any point at time. I am a proud brony and Rarity always makes me smile!
Also, my fellow bronies, if you haven't checked out hotdiggedydemon's MLP parodies on youtube you really should, they're hilarious. But do be warned that they are a little mature, but are still funny if you can get passed the gruesome jokes ;P

I could never get into this trend.
It just baffles me as to why it even exists...

That's what I was set on thinking before I actually sat down and watched all of the episodes. Now I'm hooked. You either like it or you don't, and if you do, awesome! If you don't, awesome! But in my opinion it's one of the -best- cartoons out at the moment. And the community makes some pretty awesome music, which is the icing to the awesome MLP cake.

The trend exists because it started on 4chan, the site that basically has started tons and tons of memes and subcultures. It's the largest english speaking image board on the web. Even if you haven't been on it, you've seen its effects on a great scale. That's where the trend came from.

But, to give credit to the show, strong characterization and a very "self aware" sort of dialog and story line make it awesome. They know older audiences are watching it, and occasionally give us little nods. It's a good show, probably better than a lot of the junk they put on television.

Also, 4chan just got a new /mlp/ board. Which I'm pretty stoked about, as a brony.

This.
I really never used 4chan and have no desire to, but more power to you.
I am well versed in internet memes and know this is a meme, but I don't know why it deserves to me.A
To me, it's as ridiculous as when those "hipster kids" would where Dora the Explorer and Blues Clues backpacks to school because they thought they were being ironic or something. I dunno. I assume this show is a lot more well written, but it derives from a Hasbro show that was made in the 80s as a marketing campaign for a toy. Also, I think most cartoons geared towards children should start giving nods to the adults that have to watch them anyway, because often parents will sit and walk television with their kids, but most of the stuff that's geared towards their age group is so unbelievably condescending and or nonsensical.

If lolcatz and rage comics have huge subcultures, why can't a show?
Yeah, there is a little bit of irony in the liking of mlp, but not much. It's a show I genuinely enjoy watching because the characters and suspense actually make a good arching story line. You'd have to watch at least 5 episodes to get why it's a big deal. I mean, if American Idol has 8 seasons, why can't people enjoy My Little Pony? I agree, a lot of shows aimed at kids are pretty stupid. With lolrandum sorts of humor and just plain "lets make it stupid for laughs" I can see how just being a kid's show might make you think that mlp relies on this.

But it really doesn't. It's an ensemble show that is worth watching. Even if it is geared towards little girls, and might be one big product placement ad in the eyes of some people, I like it. I like it because it creates a story line that doesn't run on swearing or dirty jokes, or dumb methods of gaining cheap laughs. It is a "peril of the week" type thing, but whatever, I like seeing characters I like interact.

I don't see why it's so hard to believe a group of people like a show. There are people devoted to Star Trek, it never appealed to me, but obviously others like it, and that's cool.

I completely agree with Brad on this one, and don't really have anything to add because he summed it up spot on and better than I can/could.
And yes, I too find it pretty ridiclous at the amout of hipsters/scene kids/whatever kids what wear clothing articles that are based on shows like Strawberry Shortcake, Dora the Explorer, etc... There's like twenty kids I can think of at the top of my head that dress like that on a regular bases at my school. I can't stand it, but then again it's not my place to look at them odd when I look like I'm 9 without those types of clothes. Stupid short hair making me look younger...

A bio guy friend of mine asked me yesterday, in complete seriousness, who was my favourite pony.

I swear I'm traumatized, ponies, what the heck?  I guess friendship really is magic.  I don't even know.  Accourding to him, only guys can be Bronies because of the 'bro' part of that.  I never heard that before, so that was an interesting twist.  I have nothing against my little pony but I'm old enough to remember it in the eighties.  It was extremely girly and absolutely not for me back then.  Seemingly it's changed a bit ... at least I hope so.

If it's really worth looking into I'll do it.  I still don't have a favourite however ...

I know a few guys that do not even access the internet often, and love My Little Pony... the actual audience is a majority 22-28 year old men ROFL

PFFT. No, girls can be into ponies, they're called pegasisters!
Yeah, look into it, and try to watch the first 10 episodes or so to get a good idea. You'll either love it, or not understand and hate it. That's usually how it is.

Yea, he was kind of a diva, But I thought he was the best horse ever when I saw him. Maybe that's why I like Rainbow Dash. Or that She's a Tomboy. Or all of the above. ^_^

I always feel so weird looking at the long flowing hair on the RD toy!! lol I had to cut my RD's hair into a mohawk to make it resemble the show a bit more XD
