German courts rule that an eleven year old German transgender girl can legally be institutionalized.

The case of an eleven year old child who goes by the alias Alex Kaminsky has once again stirred debate as to Germany's stance towards gender neutrality, sex and clinical devices of purity, especially in light of its torrid history with respect to forced sterilization and aspirations towards racial purity.

At the heart of the matter can a young girl and her mother decide what is best for her daughter who biologically was not born a girl but wishes to pursue a female gender or are they obligated to subscribe to the courts view which at present allows open the possibility of the child being institutionalized whom according to human rights group now fear the child will be exposed to a type of redressing with the expressed intent of correcting what is implicitly perceived to be mental deficiencies of a the child.

The commotion came about as Berlin's Kammergericht this past Thursday re affirmed a lower court's decision allowing the state to institutionalize an eleven year old. At the time of the ruling, the child's mother who had sought therapy for her child but to date has been inexplicably denied reiterated that she will now take her case to the constitutional court in an effort to allow her eleven year old to remain living as a female despite being born a male, something the mother supports.

I'm working on getting a good idiomatic English translation of Streit um elfjÀhrige Transsexuelle: Alex soll in die Psychiatrie - taz.de

But in summary.....

A Nurse decides (probably on religious grounds) that Transsexuality is due to parental upbringing, so the eleven year old child will be confined to a locked ward in a mental hospital - then, in the unlikely event she can pretend to be "cured", placed in a foster home, so her supportive mother will never see her again.

And the court agrees. No expert medical opinion is needed. The appeal has been rejected.

Moral of story: don't support your Trans child, or they'll be taken from you, given "reparative therapy", and you'll never see them again. If they live.

I'm continuing to feel very uneasy about this case.

On the face of it, is is serious and important.

But on the other, it has only been featured in a few rather questionable outlets and it just doesn't make a lot of sense.

If the claims in this case are true, then I would have thought medical, civil rights, child welfare, not to mention gay groups, would be screeming blue murder from Vladivostok to Cork. Yet only a few outlets and even they don't seem that eager to follow it up.

''The above article is an update.  Her mother went to appeal to keep her out of the psychiatric ward and lost.  She will be institutionalized because of her expression of her gender.  She will be held until she conforms to male gender and then released to foster care, not her mother who was supporting her.

Please, if you haven't signed the petition, sign it, reblog it, ask your friends to sign it. We've managed to get 40K signatures for a pageant model, we've only gotten 11K for a little girl about to have her life ruined.  Lets get on the ball and spread the word.''

Actually, according to other websites and posters there is a lot more to the story than this. According to them the parents had previously surrended their right to decide the child's threatment but the mother maintains the right to decide the residence of the child and, thus, the child will not be send to a psychiatric hospital.

I can only repeat the points I made in the other thread on this subject and some which were added by others.

The story is uncorroborated. It appears in a few webs sites and one German tabloid. No actual references or links to any credible sources of any kind.

The story might be believable in some other societies, perhaps, at a pinch, some Eastern EU societies, but seems preposterous in the EU generally and especially an advanced state like Germany. We do not treat the problems, as described, by putting young people into psychiatric hospitals. We do not keep anyone long term and do not use psychiatry them to incarcerate or punish.

The first we heard of this story was from an online 'German' news outlet, printed in English, edited by an American. Since then it has been picked up and such additions as have been made simply seem like guess work or lies.

If any child were to be placed in any psychiatric clinic, it would be for a severe mental illness.

I don't believe a word of this. I suggest it is an outright lie, seemingy cooked up by the scurrilous editor of the German Local.
