I just had a quick question about needle sizes. So I get my T from Stroheckers and the needles they gave me to inject with is 22g and 1.5" long. My fiance/partner gave me my first injection and she only went in an inch(I'm not "thick" enough to need a needle as long as they gave me) and going in was fine but the injection and removal hurt like fraking hell! And I have a high pain tolerance! I felt fine afterwards but for the past few days my thigh muscle on an off freaking hurts! Like to the point where I'm limping. The weird thing is I have no bruising and my leg isn't swollen so I'm trying to  figure out what happened so I can prevent it from happening again. Basically my question(s) is do you guys think the length of the needle is what caused the muscle pain? Maybe injecting with half an inch out of my skin moved the needle that was inside? Have any of you tried or are using needles under an inch in length? I'm considering getting different needles but I honestly am not sure what size to get :/.

I use 25g x 1inch and don't even feel It at all.

I would be less inclined to think the size had much to do with the pain and more inclined to suspect how quickly the injection was being given/how fast the plunger was being pressed.

Last week when I gave myself a shot it hurt like that --- the first time since I started taking T.  I was nervous about this week's shot -- but no problem this time.

Unless you have a ton of muscle or fat to go through, I'd say go with a 1 in needle rather than 1.5 in.  I use a 21 g 1 in needle and it's fine for me.  I also leave mine in for 10 secs after injecting and it occasionally hurts pulling back out.

Needles under an inch..It depends on whether you're trying to do it SC (into the fat tissue) or IM (into your muscle).  If you're going the SC route and using a 45 degree angle, a 5/8 in would probably be okay.  If you're extremely skinny and have little fat/muscle, the 5/8 in might be alright as well.  Otherwise, I'd switch to the 1 in.

Yes, needle size is relative to pain.  The smallest needle you can really use for IM injections is a 25g.  It will be a slower push than with a larger needle, but not that much slower.  Just make sure to get the depth, as if you don't get into the muscle, you can cause some problems.

Perhaps try getting a 1" needle like the others suggested? I use a 22g needle as well with the 1" and don't have pain issues. I was sore for the first few shots, but now I only rarely am sore. The problem could be that your muscle isn't relaxed enough, or that the person doing your shots is injecting too quickly or moving the needle around a bit too much. If it is possible it might be better for you to do the shots yourself? I find that it is easier to make sure it is done right when you are in control.

Yeah, I'm guessing the needle moved around and that could be the culprit of your pain. I've been self-injecting for months and I still occasionally do the odd thing that causes my needle to move inside the muscle and I feel it for days afterward. Then again when I was receiving injections from the nurse she did it really quickly and I would still feel sore sometimes. Yeah though, get 1" needles next time if you can. You can order in bulk online but make sure you experiment first to find out what works best for you so you're not stuck with 100 needles you hate.

Thanks for all the advice! I'm going to give 1" a go and see how that works as I have rather skinny thighs. I was talking more in depth about it with my partner and I do think it was a combination of the needle moving around and well she's a medical assistant but this was her first time doing a T injection so apparently she did put a little too much force down on the plunger. I guess I'm lucky my doctor is making me wait a little bit longer than usual for my next shot lol give me time to heal and get new needles.

wheat thins are delicious

5/8" length needles are also an option.  That is the size I use and have never had a problem.

Get needles that are the right size. Injecting with a half inch out can easily move the needle around while you're injecting. In fact, I injected once with about 4mm of the needle out and it moved into a vein from the time I aspirated to the time I started injecting. So I ended up shooting part of it intravenously, til I aspirated again and drew blood.  :icon_evil:

So #1 get 1-inch needles
#2, maybe use 23g because it's smaller and works perfectly fine.
#3, remember not to flex at all. It should be obvious but some people forget this.
