Ok so I was always planning to go to Dr Garramone because he is the cheapest and he has great results.  But I recently met a trans guy in NC who went to Dr Keelee Macphee in raleigh.  He said it cost him 7,500. But he never showed me a picture of his chest and the surgeon doesnt have any pictures on her site either.

I went on youtube and I found a guy who went to the same dr and he shows his results and GUESS WHAT! they look good! it looks just about as good as Garramone.

I have a consultation with this dr on the 11th next month.

now my thinking was, yes she is more expensive then Garramone, but I am only an hour away from her so the only thing I would have to pay for is surgery, no plane tickets, no weeks worth of hotel.  i could go home and recover in my own bed and I would only have to suffer for an hour in the car.

But I was worried that I wouldn't like her results, but now that I have seen this guys video, i am ecstatic! so i am going to post his video here, hopefully that is ok even though it isnt my video.

Congrats man!  The big kicker for me was that there's an actual top surgeon in the Carolinas.  I had no clue.  I hope all goes well for you mate.

Good luck Elijah! I hope all goes well for you, you must be ridiculously excited  :)

That's great. I was thinking about going that route as well with surgeons in Nashville/Memphis TN... but I haven't found anyone's results on the net from them yet.

thanks everyone.. now don't get too excited. Unless I can get a credit card, loan, or she takes my insurance, then I am not getting top surgery yet lol, but yeah I do have my consultation.

yeah well you may have to get a reference because I never would have found this dr without a reference from this guy I met, because her website only mentions top surgery once, most of her work is with breast cancer, so maybe you could start there.

One surgeon at Vanderbilt does FTM top surgery. He won't give me price estimates though; he wants me to come in for a consult too see what procedure I need. It's top surgery, there's not a whole lot of options there... I don't get why I need a consultation just to get prices. Especially when I would have to drive over an hour to get there.

I know this is a really old topic, but I'm interested to hear if Elijah had his consultation with Dr. Macphee, or if anyone else has worked with her. I also live in NC and am wanting to eventually pursue top surgery, so having someone in-state to perform it would be a huge plus.

I know the feeling of having a good surgeon that is close. Medalie is only an hour away for me!

I haven't heard of this surgeon before.  Her incision lines actually look similar to Garramone's.  The areolas look larger than his, however, Garramone does tend to give smaller areolas than most surgeons.

very old topic indeed lol. I did have my consult with dr Macphee, cost me a hundred bucks and she didn't really tell me anything I didn't know already. Anyway, circumstances changed and I went to Garramone instead. I know at the time, she was charging 8k, which is pretty pricey. If I were you I would just rather go to a well known, very experienced surgeon. Garramone told me he has done thousands of top surgeries. I think he does up to 4 of them a day. Mine only took him twenty minutes, its crazy.

5 a day, actually.  According to the sign attached to my hospital bed, I was "Garramone #4" that day. Cracked me up!  He told me he does 500 per year.  The man is amazing.  He was my top choice.  Low price had nothing to do with it.  I live an hour away from Fischer who I think is a great surgeon (even for double incision.  she is known for her peri/keyhole), but I still flew to Florida for Garramone.  Obviously with travel and such, it cost me more, but I am quite pleased!  Being that I am not on T I had some worries about the contouring, but fortunately I have good muscle mass for a female bodied person, so my chest looks really great.

His low price must truly be about his caring for the community (as he says it is), as he is certainly not having a hard time getting patients.

I have decided to go for Garramone when I have the money as well, simply because he does so dang many of them lol. I have seen his results and they seem, for the most part, rather uniform, which is another good sign.

Thanks! Yeah, the more I read about Garramone, the more I'm leaning towards him. He seems to be one of the best/experienced surgeons for this particular procedure and the cost is good compared to others. How far in advance did you have to book your surgery?

6 weeks for me and I had a October (2013), surgery.  I had to talk to him the other day about a concern I had (I "spit a suture" - not a big deal) and he told me it is crazy busy for him right now.  He said from now until February it will be crazy because all the college guys want to get their surgeries over winter break.

As an aside, I am really glad I got my surgery in the Fall (I live in a mid-atlantic state).  It is the best time for healing.  I am very meticulous about using my Scar Away gel (I wrote on another thread that I was using the strips, but I have changed), and it wouldn't work as well (the gel, strips or the Scar Guard nail polish stuff) if I was sweating all the time.  Since I got it done in the Fall, I have the maximum number of months to wear the gel in cooler temps.

Medalie is also well regarded (among some others).  If you are getting peri/keyhole, Fischer is a good choice, as this is her specialty (or at least that is how many see her, so she does a lot of them.  I think her DI are good, too).

Go on to transbucket.com and look at the pictures.  Search by surgeon.  That would be a good way for you to narrow down your choice.

Thanks for the advice! I'm a D cup, so thinking DI is going to be my best option as far as surgery type. If I could do it in the colder weather I would, but logistically I'm hoping that it will work out to get it done this summer so I don't have to take time off of work/school.
