How come you still have to dilate even if you're regularly having sex?

Because a penis is not generally as long and won't be able to flex out the walls of your vagina to tautness (they're flexy-squishy) as well as a hard-as-hell plastic dilator. Sex is fun. Dilation is, as a friend of mine once put it... "I feel like I've been kabob-ed."

"If you engage in sexual relations on a regular basis, you can omit the weekly dilation" - Dr. Brassard's post-op instructions. That's after the first year of healing of course. And assuming the "sexual relations" involve penetration.

So... you don't. Depending on the doctor, I guess.

My lovers fingers don't stretch me like a dilator does...

My advice, if intercourse is doing it for you, and you are not losing any depth etc.. then it is all good. Just check in now and then with your dialator to monitor things.

I think once me and my love get a strap on, I don't think I will need to dilate quite as often as I currently do. :)

A penis would normally not be as long, or as thick, as a dilator. So it won't stretch you to the same extent, and you might end up losing depth and width. Plus, I really don't think that the penis stays in for as long as the doctors advise to dilate...

It's OK, Devlyn's here! Looks like you have choices. Keep dilating, or dump Tiny Johnson for a better (bigger) guy! Hugs, Devlyn

Even if the penis is extremely large, I don't think it can replace dilation entirely. I haven't had surgery yet, so I don't know, but don't they say you have to dilate every day for 1 to 2 hours or something? Even if you do have daily sexual intercourse, does the penis stay inside for that long? I mean, even if you do make love for an hour every day, does the penis stay inside the whole time? And does it go all the way to the bottom for all that time? I don't have any sexual experience, but this doesn't sound like a very normal way to do it.

Moreover, thickness-wise, I'm really not sure there are many men that can match a dilator. And since (I think) the most common problem with lack of dilation after surgery is a loss of width at the opening (I think a more stiff, more narrow ring tends to form at the entrance), it wouldn't really protect from that.

Doctor Brassard's dilation schedule:

Month 1 = 4 x 20 minutes per day
Month 2 & 3 = 3 x 30 minutes per day
Month 4 - 6 = 2 x 30 minutes per day
Month 7 - 12 = 1 x 20 minutes per day
After the first year and for the rest of your life = 1 x 15 minutes per week or regular intercourse

After you finish healing, you don't need to be constantly stretched all the time to keep the hole from closing. But don't listen to the post-op girl or anything... :P

Thanks for the information. Looks pretty reliable to me, compared to what I said.

thank you.

I don't get why people seem to think it still takes hours a day years later. Maybe I just have read more.

Personally, once past the doctor's orders I intend to get a big old dildo (can i say that here?) that's as big as the biggest dilator, or more, and do my best to enjoy the act as much as possible.

that and hopefully a lot of sex but I can't be counting those chickens yet.
