Have any of you guys/ gals wanted to join the military? Or have already served? Or still serving?

I've probably wanted to join for 7 years now, since I was a young teenager. But yay my gender identity limits me from being able to join. I can always stop transitioning to join and just not mention it, which I don't have a problem with. I mentioned it to a friend and she said "the times are a changin"... yea, thanks bob dylan, gay people can now serve, but us trans people have "mental issues" that don't allow us to serve our country openly.

I'm almost 20 right now, I have plenty of time to join if I decide to, but the question... to join the military or not to join the military? has been in my head for years. I'm in college right now, almost a sophomore.

Even if you havn't wanted to join or anything, please feel free to comment on the issue of transgender ppl in the military.

I think you should be able to serve. The thing is though, won't you get all manly and stuff serving in the military? I mean buff, you'll have to cease HRT, you'll look even more masculine than you do now...do you think you'll regret it?

I used to weight lift about a yr ago for track and field, got big. I identify as BOTH male and female, I don't mind getting "big" and being "manly" because it's part of me, just like it's also part of me to be the opposite. A part of me wants to be that sexy man with huge muscles, and I also want to be a gorgeous woman in a sexy black dress with the perfect size boobs.

Being in the military doesn't necessarily make you buff.  I have many male members of my family in the military and not a single one is buff.  My sister, on the other hand, got very stocky after she joined the military.  She was already stocky, but now she's even stockier (doesn't help that she pushes her stomach muscles out instead of in when she does sit-ups).  You can also get some very feminine looking women (and men) in the military.  -shrug-

I have wanted to join, but I have a pre-existing condition that the military knows about so I can't join.  However, if that wasn't there, then you bet I'd be in the military right now.

I was in for 5 years, and loved it! I thought it was wonderful, and did not want to leave. But, due to injuries I was not allowed to stay in as I could no longer perform some key functions. I think military service is a great thing and would encourage anyone to go in. However, it is not for everyone.
