From what I've read, I've gathered (is this true?) that its a good idea to give HRT some time to work before FFS. Does this apply for rhino too? I know that its something that I will have done, and I can't imagine hormones being able to do much of anything to help.

Also for choosing a surgeon; if all I want to have done is my nose would anyone suffice or would it still be best to consider someone who specializes in FFS?

There are many, many others here who are better able to answer than I am, but I have also been doing some reading.

As I understand it, the nose is little-effected by HRT.  However, the nose is relation to the rest of the face changes as the face changes.  And FFS, depending on the procedure, can alter the profile, which the nose is a part of.

Many a natal woman have their noses worked on, but I suspect that the transwoman may have more going on with facial structure, that would require a greater degree of expertise.

Your nose will not change after being on HRT x amount of time. It will stay the same. As for who to go to, it doesn't have to be a doctor that specializes in ffs. It can be anyone. Just make sure they are board certified and good at their craft. Look at before and after photos. I went to someone who doesn't specialize in ffs and he did a wonderful job.

Cross hormone therapy only affects the soft tissue.  Bone and cartilage are not affected by post-pubescence HRT.

So a rhinoplasty would not be affected by the amount of time you have been on hormones.

Contrarily, my nose seems to be less broad... thinner... these days, after having been on HRT for some time. It was not me that pointed this out, but rather my sister. I was a little skeptical, but I had to agree...

Perhaps the way HRT affected the tissue around the nose allowed it to get thinner like that. However, that still count as a change to the nose, in a way.

I'd prefer to wait until I had been HRT for a while just so the surgeon knew what they were working with. Also, if I was planning to get FFS I'd rather have it done with other things so that they would line up and so that I would save money (just being put under anesthesia is expensive).

I know that I want to have nose work done, it's just something that I'm way too self-conscious about. My swim coach told me when I was 13, as a joke, that I had "a distinct natural advantage because of the rudder in the middle of my face" (believe it or not I loved him though). With the rest of FFS I'm perfectly willing to wait and see what happens as HRT continues. Idk, going under the knife multiple times or the idea of having revision work needed/done really scares me so I guess I'm just trying to figure out how long to wait before I do it because it's something that I would like to change sooner rather than later.

The nose isn't something that you should expect to change with HRT, however that doesn't mean that it won't change. I have read about many people saying that their nose changed. After all, your nose is not all bone, and the way I see it, cartillage can change. Even bones seem to change a little in patients in their thirties, from my readings and experience (my hips are actually widening by the looks of it).

So don't be 100 % sure that your nose won't change at all. And even if it doesn't, changes in the rest of your face could very well make it look much better. It actually happens often.

So, yeah, I would wait if I were you. Plus, if you get it done with an eventual more extensive FFS, I'm guessing that it will be easier for the surgeon to make it look harmonious that way.

  I am on hrt for 15 months now, my nose shape didn't change at all but it looks slightly smaller but this might be because of fat distribution.

P.S. I am 24 and yes actually I have bigger hips but don't think that's the pelvis, i think it is the fat I am storing there :-)

i wouldnt be suprised if i end up getting mine done 3 or 4 times lol

Same happened to me, when I was asked if I had a nose-job done when handing over my old ID for application of a new one.
The woman behind the counter asked me just that. I had not bothered to look at the older pictures - and yet there it was. My nose too got thinner and me too, I had to agree...

This was also after about 15 month HRT...

i dont think it changes anything. i got a package so it was included. but i must say i like my new nose. and other seem to really love my new nose.
