I have a couple of fingers, the two smaller on both hands, where nails are very thin and split etc. I like to keep my nails nice and don't care about or want ultra long nails. Keep them about to the end of my fingers and rounded to a pear shape. My problem is these two smaller ones split, especially if they have been buffed or sanded at all. Even avoiding that, they are a problem. What are my options? Normal "strengtheners" etc haven't helped. I'm thinking I may have to break down and get some sort of fake nails...

Thanks. What's happening is mostly vertical ridges and they vertically split right on this ridge. The especially happens if someone buffs the nail which makes it ultra thin right on the ridge. Looks mike maybe hydration with good cuticle oil twice a day might help? Years ago I used to work with harsh chemicals so that might have damaged my nail beds.

Improve your calcium intake.

I had that issue and took Biotin and that helped - lots.

The other thing... it is caused very often by too much unopposed E i.e. to low P and/or T.

I've had this for about a decade now, on just one finger - and no-one seems to know what's causing it. Bodies are weird.

An update, daily application of solar cuticle oil has seemed to resolve this problem.

It may well be rather a case of too much/elevated E. At least that is my experience, also supported by my beautician doing my nails.
I'm now taking Biotin and it is getting better, it helped me before. It takes quite a while though as the pre-Biotin growth will first have to grow out...
