If you read my introduction, you would now know that I am a pre-everything FTM that is going to a college this fall. I'd like some tips, please:

1. What can I use to pull back my breasts so I'll look flat-chested?

2. I'm 5'5" and I weigh 115 pounds and I'm a 3 or 4 in shirts and a 6 or 7 in jeans(women). What kind of men shirt,pants,and underwear should I buy? Should I go for a bigger size?

Please answer my questions. Thank you.  =D

Hi Gabriel:

FTM's bind their breasts and utilize different techniques to accomplish it.  There is this link which you may find useful.  I wish you luck!  :)

This is really going to depend on how big your breasts are. Some guys can use a high-compression sport's bra, and that's probably the most comfortable thing if it binds well enough for you. The underworks gynomastia shirt is pretty hot and sweaty and fits badly, cutting most guys under the arms, and it doesn't give me that much better binding effect than the Title Nine Sport's 'Frog Bra'. The Frog used to be the only sports bra out there built to compress rather than give, but now you can find more, some compress just as well as the frog, at least for me. Some are better in other ways -- the fabric of the frog will catch on a t-shirt and make this dumb rumple over my chest every time I bend, I have to be careful what shirt I wear when binding with a frog. Then again, one compression-bra that has smooth fabric that t-shirts don't catch on has straps too close so they show under the t-shirt collar so... And so on. Your milage will vary, depending on size and shape of your breasts and what you're wearing over the binder.

If it suits your style and you're small breasted, you can wear a waistcoat (a 'vest' in Americanese) instead of a binder some days. You'll need a stiff-fronted one, maybe a leather one, and it must button up higher than many of the modern suit-peice ones do. You will look old-fashioned. You may wish to cultivate an old-fashioned look, because dressing in more formal menswear will distinguish you from a woman in unisex clothing.

I've not worn any women's clothes in far too long to know what those sizes mean. I understand women's sizes don't corespond to anything but women's egos, so her size progressively gets smaller over the years even when her body doesn't change, because if two identical peices of clothing are labeled size 5 and size 6, women will choose the 5. I suspect the same is come to be true of men's casual shirts, what with the sudden appearance of XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL and such.

Men's sizes actually corespond to measurements on your body. But you should try stuff on for now. Later you'll know what fits right and be able to just buy stuff without trying it on. You want the waist of trousers to lie just over the bony top of your hips instead of at the narrower 'waist' area above your hips. You will not look male in pants that cut in above your hips. Because you are short(er than most men), you are going to have a hard time finding trousers that are not too long and you may need to take up sewing and hem them shorter.

Don't go for a larger size. You will probably want 'relaxed fit' trousers, but get stuff that fits. If you're swimming around in your clothes it emphasizes your small stature and may make you look waifishly girly rather than masculine.

If you're willing to look old-fashioned, wear a tie. It's hard to find them now, but a narrower tie will look better on a small man like yourself -- the wide ones will, like too-big clothes, make you look tiny.

I have no clue what women's sizes mean or compare to in men's clothes..I only know that women's shoe sizes generally run 2 sizes larger than men's. I wore a 12 in women's when I was younger so I usually ended up wearing men's shoes anyhow =D

I wear clothes that fit..kinda..the kind that needs to be held up with a belt or you see boxers but that's me. Wear something that fits, but not too small like most women's clothing I see fits >.<

For compression I use umm packing tape, the clear kind, over an undershirt. It works well but will suffocate you, so I wouldn't recommend it for starters. Underworks sells compression shirts, neoprene waist trimmers you find in the exercise department work too, control top pantyhose  with the crotch cut out and the legs cut shorter so its like a tight undershirt works too. It might drive you nuts for awhile but your chest will go numb after awhile of binding and it makes it easier to endure. Just make sure you can breathe at all time, if you can't you're binding too tight.

ftmguide.org is the Hudson's Guide for FTM's and is a good place to start. Good luck man =)

Just a word of advice.  Transmen look great in suits and sports jackets  ;)

Plus mens dress shirts hide curves if they fit right.  So do Jackets.

(I hate to admit this, but I have a thing for transguys in suits.  I don't know why, you just look so damn good in them.)

Doc gives a lot of good pointers but here's a few more ideas. Once again, it really depends on the size of your chest-- if you're small you can generally get away with a tight sports bra (I highly recommend Gilligan & O'Malley from Target if you're on a budget) and an undershirt (you can just buy a package of plain white ones in the mens underwear section). If you're a little more endowed, Underworks is your friend. Awesome binders there- my favourites are the tri-top for tshirts and the compression vest for button-up shirts though the tri-top works for just about everything. A lot of guys like the double front too, though I've never tried it.

2. I'm 5'5" and I weigh 115 pounds and I'm a 3 or 4 in shirts and a 6 or 7 in jeans(women). What kind of men shirt,pants,and underwear should I buy? Should I go for a bigger size?
I haven't the slightest idea how women's sizing works but a good starter for a mens wardrobe is to hit the discount/thrift stores. I buy most of my shirts at thrift stores (mostly button-up, they hide any tell-tale bulges of my chest best)...buy shirts a little baggier than you might be used to. You want them to at least hang to the bottom of your zipper of your pants, if not a little longer than that. Pants! I have found the greatest jeans at Old Navy- they have a style called "extra loose" that are cut wider and therefore hide a XX figure much better without having to go up in waist size and look 'gangsta.' Pants are measured in two sizes- your waist and your inseam (from your crotch to your foot on the inside of your leg). You'll probably want to wear your pants a little lower than most men to hide your hips if you've got 'em, so perhaps measure a little lower than your waist. I usually wear one size larger in waist size in dress pants, for some reason.

Hope that was helpful!

I am a 38b and while hiding my breasts I opted for the tight sports bra with a leather vest. You can throw in a button down shirt (untucked) for a casual look. Between the tight sports bra and the vest, hardly anyone noticed.
