  Good points here Trista.  But movies have been changed in the past when it bombs at the premiere.

Maybe the violence was turned down but otherwise that's a bit much to alter.

Anyways, I liked it okay, so.....

Hmm in all honesty the hype surrounding this movie seems exaggerated most of it will stem from the surgery horror stuff it's never nice to see a body in that state it's why TV shows that feature it give warnings for the squeamish and when it involves the genitals even more so. it's probably no worse than any other revenge horror movie and some of the fiction on the numerous TG story sites (infact the plot sounds exactly like they ripped it off one of them)
Most of the reaction will be from the simple fact that it's pretty much every non TG males worst nightmare waking up without their penis. ;D
I like girly things shopping, shoes, collecting knives .....Well in Scotland it's girly

It's actually based on Thierry Jonquet's 'Tarantula', a book he wrote a long time ago. He passed away some years ago, in 2005 IIRC. Almodovar's films have always had a sexual nature to them, and when I heard he was optioning the story I just couldn't imagine how twisted this could end up being. I watched the movie a couple months ago, and I wasn't impressed. He probably had a fascination with the story, but even the violent scenes and all that were not really that much, at least compared to other films. I was probably more shocked when I watched 'Irreversible', when Monica Bellucci gets abused for like 7 or 8 minutes. THAT was disturbing.

Just watched this and it seemed really pointless and meandering. I managed to mostly put the pieces together by the end but I spent a good chunk of the movie really lost and confused about the timeline and so forth. It felt like a movie by someone who fetishizes forced transition.

I couldn't help but see massive parallels between this movie and an American one called "Victim" which is instant streaming on Netflix right now. The parallels were so clear that I can't help but wonder if one movie inspired the other or if they were both based loosely on the same thing.

I saw this on Starz last night and really didn't like it. First off, weird movie... is weird. Really strange lighting, feel, and cinematography. Also the jumping back-n-forth in time throughout the movie makes it hard to follow.

It really appeared to me to be more of a fetish fantasy tale than anything else. The whole part dealing with the forced SRS as revenge for his daughter's death seemed shoe-horned in towards the end. One thing that was complete applesauce was how the "patient" near immediately after the forced SRS starts speaking perfectly 100% like a genetic female.
::)

This really came off like some dirty old man's sick fantasy that you'd read on one of those trashy CD websites. Anywho, I give it two thumbs down.

My friend tried to get me to watch that and Human centipede. Had to pass.

I heard about Human Centipede - ewww... its safe to say I am NEVER going to watch it...

I agree that it sucked. Victim is a very similar movie but much better. Not for the feint of heart though.
