They can measure you over a bra if it's not padded and if it fits reasonably comfortably. Alternatively, they can measure you over a (thin, close-fitting) shirt with no bra, or over a camisole or something. They should be professional and not push out out of your comfort zone.

The initial measurement is only an estimate anyway. You then try on some bras, and if they don't fit quite right, the estimate is revised to take that into account.

I really need to get a fitting.  I want something that will give cleavage.

I don't have a Victoria's Secret very close to me but if I ever find one I'll definitely go inside and get a fitting, they sound like pros. You've all been very helpful, thank you!

To add to the picture.

The term referrs to the separation between the breasts. When Britain went through it's uptight period in the 19th century, (along with most of Europe), women would use corsets and such, so their chests looked like a sort of shelf.

I recall, when I was very small, being told the lump was to care for babies. I assumed it was a shelf. It didn't occur till later that it was made up of two parts.

This, apparently, was quite a common misconception among young men in the 19th century.

When women started wearing clothes that showed the tops of their breasts, revealing the separation, this was called cleavage. Cleave, to split.

Frequently when men's magazines are displayed on news stands and I even saw an example of this on Google recently, the whole of the breast is shown but for a star on the nipple.

So, it seems, that breasts are not actually dirty and will send us all to hell, just nipples.

Which begs the question, why are women's nipples dirty while men's are not?

Not to hijack the thread, but I sucked it up and went to VS today and got a fitting.  I officially wear a 42B, which is ... hard to find. :D

But I'm all excited.

I don't get that nervousness however with me it's obvious because I didn't grow boobs just huge puffy nipples which has me abit worried if I'm going to get a tuberous breast deformity should they grow.

But yeah I've seen some comedic interpretations of this, Where a woman had no breast at all on a talk show and they showed her nipples then after breast augmentation they censored them despite the nipples begin unchanged.

In a Japanese Animie (I've forgotten which one) it's set in a high school one of the lovey dubby ones (I didn't like it much done to death), Best friend to the main protagonist is a Pre-everything living as a male MTF transsexual and they mentioned at some point that they intended to transition in the future after graduating and that there heart was female... close enough... curiously in a changing room scene they censor female nipples and they also censor that characters nipples but not any of the other male characters of course there wouldn't be anything different about that characters nipples but I found it interesting.

Way to go! :D It's harder than it sounds to actually do something like that

I actually started out wearing sports bras, and then finally got the courage to get a "real bra" after being measured in a Victoria's Secret. It's better to have them measure you, than to do it at home, order online, and wait to see if it fits.

My first bra was brought from M&S. I was very nervous but the female staff helped me to select .For me,dressing is one of the difficult problems as it would be difficult to go shopping en femme. Are we allowed to put the dresses, skirt, tops on in female changing room in the shops? it would be so embarassed. Do you go shopping with your female friends? I guess it would be easier for you as you are so younger. I know that the staff should be helpful , but the customers may feel weired. what do  you think of that?By the way, for me, i feel not comfortable to wear a legging or tight jean. do you have this problem? Some trans-women recommended orchidectomy is a good choice as it stops the male hormone and the scrotom shrink. A lot of Thai transgender girls had it done at the age of 12-15. It would be more easier for dressing up on tight legging, jean or dresses.

Yes I think I would like to get an orchie done eventually because your right it's hard to fit into some clothes without "problems". I've tried tucking but I can't get the hang of it.

If you wear a panty liner or pad, it smooths out any minor bulges.  After a month on hormones, my testicles are so small, that whole thing's no longer an issue, hehe.

I agree with Kyrill, but I will add my two-cents worth from my own experience.  I am between an A and B cup, 38B to be precise as far as bra fitting goes.  I bought myself several push-up bras and hard shell bras, but they all have problems.  The one that I like best is a soft material bra (JC Penney has then), which provide support, but allows some growth.

The problem with a hard shell, at least for me, is that my breasts are not heavy enough yet, so they do not push down the bra.  These bras alwasy ride up and are annoying.  When I was taking estrogen / progesterone, the bras would be a bit uncomfortable too, especially on my nipples.  I did not think of that until Kyrill said that, but he is absolutely spot on.  He knows his bras.  I have a soft one, which stays down and is does not bother me.  I enjoy wearing it all day.

Hopefully, my breasts will start growing again soon (could not happen fast enough).  I would love to have the problem of my breasts growing out of my bra all of a sudden and need a bra buying emergency.

Try a sports bra for that first one..

I wore sports bra when my breasts started growing.. as said earlier push up and all that fancy stuff is a waste on just starting to grow boobs.

When I crossed A-cup I bought my first convential bra.

Now I am a C-cup and love push-up bras :-)
Enjoying ride the hormones are giving me... finally becoming the woman I always knew I was

I had a terrible time finding a bra to fit, but eventually did, bought 2 and wore them forever.  Now though, after7 years, I HATE bras and refuse to wear one.  I'm an okay B cup, but hey....my boobs aren't that old, and perkier than almost all my age.  I've had women ask if I had a breast lift.  I'll never wear a bra again, period.

I agree why????   My best guess, some women have nipple as large as grapes and very large areolas that may bother some folks

Yes, as I said, quite perky.  I don't generally talk about my nipples, but I guess they're average to smallish, and they never flatten out.  If someone wants to stare, I don't really care.  It's usually no big deal, but once at the hair dressers, a woman of about 80 spent her whole time while we were waiting, glaring the stare of death.  Death to the whorish woman who shows her nipples.  I simply smiled at her, let her glare, and read my magazine.  Otherwise, I find it amusing that young people sometimes stare.  Really now, they surely have no interest in a gay 61 yr old.
