Hi all,  I was watching a trans video the other day and part of it was how people pre receive others,
And I was wondering if people have there own pecking order for people within our wide and diverse community based upon there how they are classified - in no particular order (crossdressers, androgyne, intersex, transsexuals, drag queens/kings the list goes on) and how they look...??
And are we more critical about people than the general public are???
Some will say they love everyone the same but I think it just a generic answer cause we are afraid of what people may think of us if we said yes I have a pecking order...
I do but it looks a periodic table based upon so many factors..

Honest answers please..

Cheers Tracy

The only "pecking order" I have in my mind reserves the bottom rung for anyone saying "I'm more trans than you, because <insert justification here>".

I have a simple pecking order:

I'm at the top. Everyone else is beneath me.

Seriously though...

Everyone has some degree of bias. It takes a really strong effort (more or less "strong") to suppress the natural bias that occurs.

I'd rather not share my biases, because I am trying to work on them to minimize their effect...but if I say what they are, I'm sure someone will take notes and it'll bite me in the ass later on, somehow someway.

*hugs* to all who are TG.

I wouldn't say that I have a pecking order. In fact, the very idea of a pecking order disgusts this little anarchist. Do I have natural biases? Of course. I have to actively work to accept people whose outward appearance doesn't comfortably fit into the gender binary. Passing is pretty important to me, but that's my baggage not anyone else's. I completely believe that TG's should express themselves however they wish and find respect.

Well, like most all forums this forum is ruled by the rules of the Forum owner. Pecking orders are not allow, yet like Beth said, we all have our own prejudices and senses of superiority. Expressing them in our politically correct society is a no-no least you incur the wrath of the collective

So, yeah, like my mommy used to say: "to recognize your own virtues is a virtue itself"

This topic is a loaded gun. If anyone has a "pecking order" and lists it, they will indeed be in violation of TOS Rule #10. I advise caution posting  here. Devlyn

Lets see, there is a pecking order in my family, the oldest usually has the most influence.  Other than that the head of a company is usually at the top of the pecking order, etc.
Nameless here for evermore!;  Merely this, and nothing more;
Tis the wind and nothing more!;  Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore!!"

People have tried to put me lower on their pecking order than them. I suppose it's fair because I consider them to be lower than me on my pecking order.

In my short time here I have somewhat developed my own pecking order in terms of people who I will pay attention to more then others.  There are about  a dozen, so far, people who's posts I will always read no matter what topic they appear in.  They have shown themselves to be smart, articulate, helpful, sometimes funny, and genuine.  I definitely weight what they have to say above others.  In the same vein, I also have identified people who are completely fully of crap, are self loathing, and are only seeking attention (could be a cry for help, but I a feeling cynical today).

So, yes, I have a pecking order here.

I personally think it's really unfortunate, and somewhat reprehensible, when people try to claim some sort of status around the issue of passing or being TS versus something else.  It's especially unfortunate that some of us have felt the need to "other" some people for the purposes of elevating themselves, particularly when we belong to a group that is typically "othered" so often by society at large.  So, no, there is no pecking order.

Pecking orders whether sanction or not are but a biological fact. It happens in all species, and in humans it express in complex or simple ways, some times is overt sometimes is oh so very subtle.

The trick is to avoid being boxed

Oh come on, we're not that bad.

Please, you are far for being on my naughty list.  Granted I have not read all of your posts, but I have read enough to know that you are an alright chick.

Rereading what I wrote it may have been a little snarky at the end.  However, I do believe that in life (TG life, sports life, friends life, buying something life, etc.) most people will develop a list of folks that the will trust more than others.  Is that a pecking order, maybe.  I have one fried that I will call first every time I am contemplating a big decision.  I always start those phone calls with "May I speak with voice of reason Nate?" because he has proven, over and over again, to give me good advise.  Now, Ed, Aaron, Jen, and Bill are just as good of friends and their advise is always welcome, but Nate is the fist person I seek out.  He is on top of my pecking order.

I think all communities have pecking order, whether they are willing to admit that fact or not. However, pecking orders, much like beauty, is very often in the eye of the beholder and the human brain often makes connection that are simple over-analyses.

of course this only applies to normal circumstances, under duress where you are in the pecking order could be the difference between life and death
