Just curious if there is any kind of herb or food that will hinder the effectiveness of hrt treatment

Grapefruit is bad. As far as I'm aware that's all you really need to avoid. Tobacco is bad aswell, not really food or a herb but smoking can reduce the the action of hrt to almost nothing.

That makes little to no sense. Drink water and jog everyday, you'll loose weight in no time.
Grapefruit needs to be avoided because it has an interaction with an enzyme that causes the amount of estradiol that is absorbed to the bloodstream to skyrocket. It might sound like a it could possibly be a good thing like.. "cool more estrogen from the same pill" but, it doesn't work like that, more isn't better, more is just more and potentially poisonous to your tissues. It is a far bigger concern for cross sex hormone patients because often times we are already taking far higher doses of estradiol than our "cis" friends. As to how I know this, um dunno, I read stuff I guess.

Maybe a link to the stuff you read would help out. Hugs, Devlyn

Type "google scholar" into your search bar, and use the version of google that comes up to search for real, peer reviewed, articles on any subject. It's a wonderful resource.
That isn't meant to sound snarky,  I just think giving someone a research tool is more helpful than handing them a document :)
My comment regarding drinking juice making no sense to loose weight is based on idea that, a glass of 100% ruby grapefruit juice contains just over 3 teaspoons of sugar (around 18 calories per 250ml) suspended in what basically amounts to water. You wouldn't add sugar to water if you were trying to maintain a caloric deficit (ie, spending more energy per day than you take in, in order to burn fat/ stored energy) So, just save the calories and drink water, it's better for your teeth too :)

Any soy-based foods, as they compete with estrogen for the same chemical receptors.

well according to web md and a few other sites I found Grapefruit Juice does add to the idea of weight loss.

I found that here:

While grapefruit doesn't have any magical fat-burning properties, it can help dieters feel full with fewer calories. Bonci attributes this to the plentiful amounts of soluble fiber, which take longer to digest. Having half a grapefruit or a glass of grapefruit juice before a meal may help fill you up, so you eat fewer calories during the meal.

Hi Shawn!

So I know I'm half a decade late to this post, but for anyone who happens to find it sometime later in life, here's some of my own experience:

Grapefruit is specifically called out as a reactant with Depo-Estradiol, and can actually lead to breast cancer: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23859031

Soy foods and licorice are also listed as highly suggested foods to avoid.

Anyway, I hope you're doing fantastic!

Grapefruit tends to increase estradiol and estrone levels when estrogen is taken orally, high levels have not been shown in any study to **cause** breast cancer and in fact, high doses of E are used to treat advanced breast cancer with as much efficacy as anti-estrogens such as tamoxifen. Depo-Estradiol is estradiol cypionate dissolved in oil and injected intramuscularly. It is metabolized to estradiol in the body.

In this study, grapefruit juice and soda actually LOWERED E levels while grapefruit only increased E1S (estrone sulfate) by a mere 26% (very little, 100% is 1 times more).
I am not a medical doctor, nor a scientist - opinions expressed by me on the subject of HRT are merely based on my own review of some of the scientific literature over the last decade or so, on anecdotal evidence from women in various discussion forums that I have come across, and my personal experience

Good news for those like myself that can not stand either grapefruit, soy, or licorice.
