It is ok Rebecca, I tend to have a very undeveloped and dry sense of humor.  Most people don't get it when I am joking either, partially because I do it so seldom.

Nameless here for evermore!;  Merely this, and nothing more;
Tis the wind and nothing more!;  Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore!!"

i'll never forgive myself.  how could i have said the "h" word?  shame on me!  ::)  i stand by what i posted.  i love, i hate, i'm human, and lots of other things but i'm not a hypocrite.

If you have a philosophy of life that includes allowing you to hate people, fine.  Thanks for being honest about it.  But IMHO it means that you lose the right to criticize others who do because they do.  I am sure you are not a hypocrite.  And I don't believe Falwell was either.  He was totally true to his own philosophy.  Does that make everything right?  Of course not.  For that matter, Hitler was no hypocrite.  He even died for his beliefs, as convoulted and evil as they were.

Okay let me say this.... Destruction, Deception, equals Evil.  You bet I cheer when one of Gods real enemies, the worst kind, (the kind that uses God's name and the christian religion to hide behind as they do their evil works),  is finally held accountable. You bet I hated this man, because I hate evil and his works is what tells you what kind of man he was, pure evil. Glad he is gone, so very glad.  At the same time I take the responsibility on for helping to clean up the damage he has done in society.  Too bad clean up does not come with the number of followers that the destruction had huh? But either way, if I am not part of the solution I suppose I am then part of the problem. I do hate evil and I do not feel a bit of shame in doing so.  So yea, I admit it, it even shocked my wife when I cheered that this peace of evil garbage was erased from the earth and is now reeping what he sowed. If God wants me to feel otherwise to those that spit in his face, I would be shocked.

Peace

* Susan adjusts her halo...

You see the face on the tv screen
Coming at you every sunday
See that face on the billboard
That man is me

On the cover of the magazine
Theres no question why Im smiling
You buy a piece of paradise
You buy a piece of me

Ill get you everything you wanted
Ill get you everything you need
Dont need to believe in hereafter
Just believe in me

Cos jesus he knows me
And he knows Im right
Ive been talking to jesus all my life
Oh yes he knows me
And he knows Im right
And hes been telling me
Everything is alright

I believe in the family
With my ever loving wife beside me
But she dont know about my girlfriend
Or the man I met last night

Do you believe in god
Cos thats what Im selling
And if you wanna get to heaven
Ill see you right

You wont even have to leave your house
Or get outta your chair
You dont even have to touch that dial
Cos Im everywhere

And jesus he knows me
And he knows Im right
Ive been talking to jesus all my life
Oh yes he knows me
And he knows Im right
Well hes been telling me
Everythings gonna be alright

Wont find me practising what Im preaching
Wont find me making no sacrifice
But I can get you a pocketful of miracles
If you promise to be good, try to be nice
God will take good care of you
Just do as I say, dont do as I do

Im counting my blessings,
Ive found true happiness
Cos Im getting richer, day by day
You can find me in the phone book,
Just call my toll free number
You can do it anyway you want
Just do it right away

Therell be no doubt in your mind
Youll believe everything Im saying
If you wanna get closer to him
Get on your knees and start paying

Cos jesus he knows me
And he knows Im right
Ive been talking to jesus all my life
Oh yes he knows me
And he knows Im right
Well hes been telling me
Everythings gonna be alright, alright

Jesus he knows me
Jesus he knows me, you know...

ha ha ha ha  you're funny kristi.  while i express my condolences for his family and friends, i also realize that jerry falwell was a bigoted anti-gay preacher who at every turn opposed giving gay men and women equal opportunities to live lives free from prejudice; sadly, his legacy will be one of divisiveness.  just in case you don't know, he was at various time opposed to integration, interracial marriage, and most recently, gay rights; in evaluating rev. falwell's comments i always used to ask myself, what would his god say? surely a man who preached love and forgiveness and inclusion would despise someone like falwell attributing the 9/11 attacks to feminists and homosexuals and "abortionists". while rev. falwell's death is a loss to his family and friends, it is no loss to those who seek equal rights for all men and women to pursue the american dream. thanks kristi, for giving me this opportunity to remember falwell's divisive legacy.   tsk tsk tsk

For that matter, Hitler was no hypocrite.

Other than the being part Jew thing, no?

Hate people for being evil, hate people for being oppressive, hate people for hurting others and the very fiber of society and the human race itself. There's no hypocrisy in not wanting to be hated for medical problems or genetic defects, or simple personal preference.

The difference between saying "Right wingers who hate gays/minorities and want to pass laws oppressing them should be put to death" and "The jews/gays are ruining the country and should be put to death" is that just being jewish or gay and standing around doesn't hurt anyone - funneling millions of dollars, swaying the weak willed, and actively trying to establish legal or military oppression against someone harms LOTS of people and sets the entire planet's society back.

I guess that makes me a proponent of hate speech. Truth be told I as pro-hate/death as I am for anyone who wishes to persecute and oppress people, I really very, very rarely am subject to feelings of hatred. I just don't see the point in getting so worked up about things I cannot personally affect.

I have no obligation or desire to greet everyone with "love." Love is the highest form of respect and the most guarded gift one can give to someone else and I do not see it prudent to greet every living being, especially those who have sworn themselves as my enemy, with it so I can feel morally superior. Moral superiority is the inspiration for their actions, not mine.

Susan,
I do have flash player, so I am not sure what the problem is. But will maybe upgrade it and see if that was what is needed.

Hey, Katia!  I'm glad you see humor in this.

But just to clarify, I agree with you on all of those things you mention.  They were not goods things.  I hate those things.  But I do not hate him as an individual.  If I were to do so I would stoop to such a low level that I would be like the one I am criticizing.  I am unwilling to do so.  And if I hate a person, then hatred and evil has won a significant victory in my life.  But if I can hate things while loving people I am free to use that energy to bring about positive change and counteract the evil, rather than becoming like it.  So, in short, I feel that there is enough hatred of people in this world.  I choose not to play that game.  I know that, if nothing else, my own peace of mind makes it worth it to me.

Wishing you all the best,
Kristi

I feel that Autumn comes close to describing my attitude. Personally, I know from experience that if I go anywhere near hate that my heart blackens and my mind becomes full of poison and pain. Those feelings incapacitate me in terms of doing something productive in response to the person who triggers it.
Hate also tends to turn off other people when you are explaining your point of view. It often can cause one to skip the useful argument they have and resort to rhetoric and hyperbole which carries little useful truth with it.

I also believe that it may not be such a bad thing that the haters (of us & others) are so prolific and public. It would be worse if they stayed entirely quiet and worked to  hurt us while leaving no evidence of their true feelings or attitudes. By showing their faces, we know who they are. We know how they intend to attack us. We know their motivations which really helps in rallying other groups and individuals.  And we understand how important it is for us to remain a community.

I prefer to just love, and when that isn't enough, I prefer to just believe that one day each black heart will become clean.

You got it. Exactly.

I read a really nice rule *somewhere* (lol) that says:

"15. You may challenge the issue, but never the person."

If only everyone were willing to apply that to their lives beyond internet forums...

Hopeful,

Bad news, everyone.

Fallwell was resurrected last night.  I saw him this morning trying to suck the brain out of a 7/11 clerks head. He saw me and said to say "hello".

ChildOfTheLight

To quote (a bit out of context, or perhaps not) from this song (starting around 3:13):

(couldn't get the YouTube tags to work)

You're a disgrace to the concept of family
The priest won't divulge that fact in his homily
I'll stand up and scream, if the mourning remain quiet,
You can deck out a lie in a suit -- but I won't buy it!
I won't join the procession that's speaking their piece
Using five-dollar words, while praising his integrity,
And just 'cause he's gone, it doesn't change the fact
He was a bastard in life -- thus a bastard in death!

That's what I think of Jerry Falwell.
