I've occasionally gotten meaner and just drop down a gear and slow down without using the brakes, usually makes them rethink their following distance.

Sounds dangerous.

Oh yes, this. I'm never too aggressive though, too much of a pansy :( I just take it and cry later.

55mph seems to be pretty fast, so I would say that y'all should just go with the flow. It's nothing worth crying over.

So is tailgating someone, I just show them why a reasonable following distance should be observed.   If I go anywhere, I'm not going to be in such a hurry that I sacrifice good driving just because I couldn't be bothered to allow enough travel time.

Luckily my daily commute is only about a mile and I don't go to the bigger towns in the county very often, so traffic is seldom an issue for me.

To me, any action that makes a driver angry is criminally stupid, because an angry driver is a dangerous driver.

People who drive too close behind me on motorways. In their honour, I've learned the trick of touching the brake pedal with my foot, just enough to turn on the brake lights without actually braking.

My dad used to flick his fog lights on for a split second, they don't have time to tell if it's brake lights or fog lights but it makes them back off.

People that attempt to have a conversation with their mouth full of food. Their mouth looks like a cement mixer with half masticated contents on full display. Makes me gag.

I lived with someone who ate with their mouth open, and ate a lot of crunchy food - it was like living with a squirrel. Brr...

The MTA and their inefficiency.

Anyone who lives in NYC will know this. Nothing worse than waiting for a train in the freezing winter.

In the bronx.

Try waiting for them in Poughkeepsie, you'll rethink that there's nothing worse than waiting in the bronx

Screw etiquette, I only use correct grammar and punctuation because I don't want to hear people mope and complain about my lack thereof.

Let's eat out, grandma.
Let's eat out grandma.

Yeah, how silly to get hung up on grammar.  And what better way to participate in a college level  discussion about some serious subject then by proving that a lot of the 3 and 4th grade curriculum was too much for you to master, then, or now.

Yeah, everyone in the Bay Area complains about Muni, hates on BART, loathes GGT and all the rest - until they move somewhere else and find that late buses and trains are a hella lot better than no buses and trains.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

My main pet peeves revolve around phones.

Late callers: When I was young not everyone had a phone, it was drummed into me that you should never phone someone after 9pm unless it was an emergency as most people would be getting ready for work the next day.
It drives me wild when I get called after by people who aren't close to me, my last landlord would phone as late as 10:15 for trivial stuff, Grrr

Mobile phones in general: With the proliferation of mobiles we are all expected to be on call 24/7, if you are having a conversation with someone & they get a call they will interupt you to answer, I feel like butting in halfway through their phone call to show them how rude that is!
If you want to be left in peace then someone will comment that your phone was off & the tone of voice normally conveys their annoyance at having to contact you at a more conveniant time for you, if I want to turn my phone off i'll damn well turn it off, it's not broken, the batteries not flat, I just don't want to talk right now!!

Hands free kits: Fine in a car, in fact I hope you all use one whilst driving but if you're going to use one of these in public then don't give me evils if I think you're talking to me, all I hear is a voice, I don't know until I face you that you're using a hands free.

Loud conversations: I don't want to know that your uncle screwed your mother out of a mountain of money because it was revealed she had a different father who was your cousin (actually that conversation would be interesting to overhear).
The point is I don't want or need to hear your personal affairs, if you must discuss personal stuff then wait till you get home, make a pot of tea or coffee & discuss it over the phone with your best mate not the people crammed into the bus/train with you.

Then I don't understand. Are you saying it's good to talk like a 2nd grade child in college?

food is better than no food, shall we not complain if all we have to eat tomorrow is oatmeal?

Well, that's a different story. In a country where agriculture is sound and food supplies are high, it would be reasonable to complain over a lack of food. However, no one has to provide you with transportation, nor is organizing such a large metropolitan transportation system easy, so complaining about that is a tad unfair.

Fair enough.

Another pet peeve. Flat tires on a bike at the wrong time. Don't like it when that happens.

What exactly is 'the right time' to have a flat?  I can see it being more or less inconvenient - but I've never had one at 'just the time'.

Oh, well I meant that if I had to have a flat, I'd rather be close to my destination or at least a bike shop. I'd rather not have a flat ever, but that's impossible since no tube lasts forever, so there's no point in fretting over an inevitable occurrence.
