As a parent of two kids approaching 30 years old and establishing careers, I see nothing but hardship heading their way. By the.time they reach my age the damage will be done. Who needs death panels when you have Republican Christians that really don't believe life is sacred.

"Winter is coming" Fortunately it may be short if people organize and oppose these people. The potential backlash and pendulum swing from this is dramatic. Keep the faith.

Everyone in Donald Trump's cabinet so far has one thing in common

There's good chance you aren't familiar with the men and women who are being slowly elevated to members of Donald Trump's cabinet.

If they're names and faces you've never seen before, then perhaps you should know this: so far, there's nobody within Trump's cabinet who will support the basic human rights of those who identify as part of the LGBTIQ community.

Be patient. He was rightfully elected and we owe him our support and the opportunity to see what he will do.  We may question some of his appointments but they are all successful people with many accomplishments.  They are not accomplished politicians who owe the success to dissension. His actions so far show hope for some real progress.

Many people felt the same about Obama when he was elected but they gave him 8 years without demonstrations, rioting, and disrespect.  Many also feel that he failed in many respects.

I have faith in Trump. He is not a politician but a businessman who's views will change. He is addressing so many issues that lobbbiest have influenced politicians. Its time for a new start cos if USA continues its decline your children will have no future.
When we first start our journey the perception and moral values all dramatically change in wonderment. As we evolve further it all becomes normal again but the journey has changed us forever.

We will have to give him credit for reducing the influence that  corporate lobbyists have over our lawmakers with big money.

He has eliminated the need for under the table payments by appointing the corporate lobbyists to lead his cabinet.

Really, I seem to remember one particular person constantly questioning the legitimacy of President Obama.  Can't remember his name though.  Hmmmmm.

You have every right to be concerned.  Trump has not demonstrated any compassion for LGBTQ people in the election process and there's no evidence to suggest that he'll have a sudden change of heart.  His cabinet picks are just scary if you're a member of the LGBTQ community.

And if he happens to get himself impeached, which I think is very likely with all his conflicts of interests, then puritan Pence will become President.

The Constitution does not say that the President and Congress must give up their other business interests when entering public service.  In the beginning of our country the concept was that we would have citizen legislators and not career politicians.  They would serve for their time and return to private life.  However, during their term of public service they were expected to keep their private business interests separate.

Most of Trump's picks are successful people who are less likely to be influenced by lobbyists or have the need to seek political favors.  Like Trump, they will be forgoing opportunities to serve the government and the people.  They are mot looking forward to becoming wealthy while serving in government or to using their connections to become wealthy after they return to private life as many have done.

If we continue on the current path, the United States will soon become just another 3rd rate country like many of the former dominate great societies and world powers.

The only thing keeping our children from realizing their full potential, are bigotry, prejudice, racism, ignorance, lack of education and the Christian right.

If the country continues the current trend toward socialism, extreme government handouts, loss of good manufacturing jobs, increasing national debt, etc. the opportunity for achieving that potential will be lost.

I would normally debate every single one of your suggestions but this would probably violate Susan's Terms of Service.

But let's get back to the fact that Trump wants to fill his cabinet with openly anti-LGBTQ people who have a long history of supporting legislation and groups that negatively affect this community.   Aren't you the least bit concerned about this?

Trump reminds of a guy in a bar with his buddies. They see some gay men at the bar. "Look at those fags" says Trumps buddy. Trump looks over and says, yeah....who cares, they're not bothering anyone. I do, says the buddy and I'm gonna kick their ass and throw them out of here! Well, says Trump, I don't really care, but I guess it's your business. No sweat off my back, makes no difference in my world......have at it pal! I'm gonna have another beer.

Trump may have no prejudices or hostile feelings towards us, but his friends have demonstrated that they do indeed find us problematic. Many have used their resources specifically to make our lives more miserable.
It reminds me of when a famous actor who was invited to Buckingham Palace and the Queen came in and hadn't expected them to be there, she stated to him and his friends faces, "It would be so nice if you weren't here". That looks to be the most civilized response we may see from Trumps Cronies. It will probably devolve from there.  It's going to be a long, cold four years. Hopefully, it won't turn into eight. May be the best we can hope for.

The loss of manufacturing jobs is due more to automation etc than moving jobs out of the country.  Either way it's due to capitalism  (they guys with the money doing what they can to make more) .  Isn't unfettered capitalism what you on the right want?

Why isn't it socialism when the government give huge tax breaks to a company to get them to keep a few jobs around but it is to give assistance to those that lose their jobs because some CEO needs to make another million on his bonus?
  •

Deborah

It's only socialism when the government gives assistance to poor people.  If they give assistance to corporations or rich people then its capitalism.  (Conservative Logic 101)

If too many people are unemployed and receiving permanent government assistance who is going to pay? How long will the others work and strive to get ahead and better themselves if the government only takes away the rewards of their work to give to those who only want to sit back and live on government assistance?

However, social security and medicare to those who work and pay into the plans for most of their working years with a promise of benefits in retirement is not welfare or government assistance.  It is merely a promised return on their investment.

We are not going to agree on economics, I've never met a conservative who's mind has been changed by facts.  Corporate welfare in the form of tax breaks etc cost the country way more than any social safety net program.  Tax cuts for the rich have never benefited the middle class and have never led to more jobs.

So getting away from economic policy, I don't understand how anyone here can support the Republican party and especially the batch that Trump has nominated due to their positions on LGBT issues.  If the current batch has their way we will all be stuffed back in the closet at best.  Many of them basically deny that  we exist.  We are just a bunch of devil worshipping perverts in their minds.

If there was ever a group that should be one issue voters it would be our community.
