I enjoy cruising but all of it has been in warmer climates of Caribbean or Mexican peninsula on the Pacific side.

My bucket list trip has to be an Alaska cruise with a balcony suite. It is definitely on my future plans but might have to wait a few years. I want to do it right and those cruises tend to cost double the price of a Caribbean cruise.

All cruises at the moment sounds really good to me!

Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Have you seen the Grand Canyon?

From the south or from the north side, or both?

Did you get close to the rim?

Did you go down into the canyon?

I may make another trip to Alaska.  This time I want to spend more time inland.  I may not drive to Alaska this time either.  I am contemplating a cruise or perhaps flying in, then getting a rental, a rugged road car.  Will I go up and down the Dalton Highway?  Could take a dip in the Arctic Ocean.  Might visit Chicken.  We shall see.

Then again, perhaps a Pacific island vacation or to go to the UK.

Maybe nowhere too far away.

Then again, perhaps Durango, CO.  Never actually visited around that part of Colorado.
Could also visit Idaho and Wyoming, the Grand Teton area.  Jackson Hole itself is rather expensive though.  Maybe go whitewater rafting?

Could even take a short stagecoach ride in town.

Many, many times.

It is made up of a soil called "tuff," which is ancient volcanic ash that was deposited when the Yellowstone Supervolcano exploded long ago. It erodes quickly, so each time you go back, it will look a little different.

Estimates suggest that in 100 years, it will no longer exist.

Does not sound like very "tuff" soil if it will go away!

I think I might hike a section of the Appalachian Trail, but likely no longer than a week.
I do not need to start at either end.  Just start.

In the Black Hills of SD, they have the Mickelson Trail. It was once a train track that serviced all of the gold mines, hauling ore to the smelters. When abandoned, they tore up all of the tracks, but left the trestles that go over canyons. It is now open to hiking, horseback riding, and bicycles. It goes through some beautiful countryside.

I have hiked about 20 miles of it carrying a backpack with mining gear. I would park in the nearest lot and hike to a location that I wanted to scout. You meet some very nice people while hiking trails.

Yes, you do.  Sometimes someone a "little unusual" as in the case of the "A Walk in the Woods" movie, but it is fun.

Try to hike with someone for more safety.

I am glad that California Highway 1 is fully open again!

This includes the long-closed stunning Big Sur section.  We can drive the entire Pacific Coast Highway end to end without detours.

But.... You never know when a rockslide or other big issue will occur again!

I am debating to go to Alaska.  There is a lot there I did not see during a prior visit.

I may travel to the upper Great Lakes.  It may be a peaceful, quiet time off.
Alaska though seems like it may be more so, unless there were lots of tourists.

If you make that trip, you might enjoy visiting Mackinac Island. I have never been myself, but I have friends who gave it rave reviews.

I was stationed at Fort Ord from '85 to '90. Very nice area with a high cost of living.

I haven't been back since, and Fort Ord is now closed and designated a Superfund Cleanup site due to all the contamination. I think @tgirlamg was there helping with the cleanup.

Did you do any diving at Morro Bay? I loved going there, but the water was always too cold, so I limited my swimming there.

You wouldn't recognize the place these days... the beach rifle ranges are all Ft Ord Dunes state park now since we cleaned up the lead... the University CSUMB has expanded over the years and filled with some really beautiful buildings and facilities... I spoke to a few classes there just last week... There is a Veteran's Cemetery... Much of the back part of the post is now designated Historic Monument with large areas for hiking and mountain biking and new shopping centers and housing development have been building up for many years now...

I will always be proud of my 17 years of contributions to cleaning that place up so that new lives and new memories can be built there 🌻

Hugs!!!
