I am also one who loves to travel. Beside 20 plus different US states I have visited. I have been to Canada, Mexico, Honduras, Belize, Jamaica, Bahamas, Japan, Tawain, Singapore, England, Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar.

I have a trip booked that includes Brazil and Argentina. My bucket list includes Australia, New Zealand and Panama.

Before I "came out" full time, in my male mode when I served in the US Air Force and then my civilian executive accounting job, frequently I had traveled extensively.

Multiple times I have been ALL 50 US states and the US Territories of Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.  Also many countries such as Panama, Mexico, Canada, UK including  Scotland and Ireland, Spain, Portugal, France, Ukraine, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, Costa Rica, Honduras, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Guatemala, Brazil, Paraguay, Chile, Uruguay, Haiti, Egypt, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, China.... and more that I can not quickly recall.

I also enjoy and look forward to going back home to be on US soil.

Exactly. It's not a competition and it's not really a relevant comparison other than number of countries (and that is just a number).
I like to travel and see places and given that I've been on maybe 2000 flights during my lifetime, I have a number of countries visited.

But someone who does not enjoy travelling can be just as experienced, and also more experienced. And perhaps also more Well travelled with respect to what really counts.

Short vacations can be fun.  The drawback is the getting to and from there takes up a greater percentage of the "time away" the shorter the "time away."

If you are going far, try to stay longer.  But, sometimes it is nice to just get away.

When you went up to the summit of Pike's Peak, did you drive (or were driven up), bike, walk, cycle, or take the cog railway?

If you drive you should use a very low gear coming down to reduce the heat of and use of your brakes.  The drive is not for those with a fear of heights or driving off the edge.  Guardrails are not all along the roadway's edge.

The Jackson Hole area is nice.  The lodging is on the high end though.  Have you been there?

Going to Spain in a month. Have to get som serious summer because the weather has been wet-wet-wet here, this summer. About four times the normal rainfall meaning some 300 mm in August. This is double the amount of the previous "record" from 1975.

Driving west on I-70 past Vail and Avon, Colorado you have a very scenic drive through Glenwood Canyon.  Enjoy the views!  The Colorado River is adjacent to and sometimes is under the highway in this area.

If you visit Vulcan, Alberta, Canada you will see an interesting collection of Star Trek items, especially featuring Mr. Spock!

Have you driven and stopped at many of the numerous historical venues on US Route 66?

This route goes east west, from Santa Monica to Chicago.  You can find many museums, old shops and gas stations, oddities, abandoned former businesses, even abandoned payment and bridges of parts of Route 66.

When I was very young (6 or 8 years old), our family drove along it from California to Pennsylvania to visit relatives back East. We stayed with my grandparents for a summer, saw all the farms where my ancestors had lived, and then drove back.

I was too young to remember much about the trip except that it was fun to see the sights. Many years later, I was on the route and found a small shack selling authentic maple syrup. I bought a case, and it was really good syrup.

I was taught how to drive up and down mountains by the chef at the Inn at Mount Equinox Vermont.
He was a highly talented chef in Europe on sabbatical.  He said the secret was to go up and down as fast as you can! The science is simple.  Engines and brakes are air cooled.  More air means more cooling!

I went up and down Mount Equinox so often that I had a few instances of being behind slow vehicles.  I'd let them crawl forward while I waited, essentially parked in the middle of the road.  Then I'd quickly descend, and brake hard.  This gave the brakes the air they needed to cool down.                                                                                                       

I've descended Mount Washington in Saturn SL2  with the transmission set to dreve for a very quick descent!  I left late in the afternoon after all the cautious people had already gone home due to nasty weather at the summit.  Sure enough there was nobody in front of me for the entire descent.

I've visited both Pikes Peak and Mount Evans in the same day with a rental Ford Escort economy sedan.
The first gear allows a wonderfully slow descent for sight seeing on the way down.

Have you been to Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada?

One of the most picturesque locations is the town of Lake Louise.  It was named after Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll.  It is located in Alberta's Rockies on the Bow River, about three km northeast of the lake that shares its name.  Initially settled in 1884 as an outpost for the Canadian Pacific Railway, Lake Louise sits at an elevation of 1,600 m, making it Canada's highest community.

The nearby lake, framed by mountains, is one of the most famous mountain vistas in the world.  Very pretty, with a chateau put in by the Canadian Pacific Railway.  Very opulent.

Moraine Lake is nearby and there are also magnificent views there.

I've been to dozens of US states but not to the Pacific Northwest.  Northern California is as close as I've gotten to that area.

I've been to every tourist attraction on Kauai dozens of times as I grew up there.  When we moved there all our relatives stayed with us.  We have a lot of relatives on my father's side.

Similarly, I've extensively traveled in New England and did day trips into the Catskills of upper NY.

When I traveled on business in the 1990s we were encouraged to visit the local area. Many of the places I sent to were local tourist areas intended to give the wives something to do. That went away but by then I rarely traveled on the employer's dime.

I vacationed in Manchester Vermont and stayed at the Mount Equinox Inn several times a year.
Holly, the Inn Keeper, taught me about her business!  She let me look at the reservation book and choose any room I wanted at a discount rate.  She even had a spare room I could use.
