I desperately needed an "Emma" day.  I told everyone I was teaching today, but I played hooky.  I contacted my friend Jenn, and we decided to move our shopping "uptown" in NYC.  To be clear, we didn't buy anything new, but we wandered Nordstrom's, Bloomingdale's, and Macy's Herald Square, blowing off aggressive salespeople, checking out ridiculously expensive clothes, and only seriously looking at stuff in TJ Max.  No surprise!

It was so much fun and, of course, Jenn took photos.  Given that I am only on hormones for 8 years, I get to act like a little juvenile once in a while, and this was the day.  Enough mature adult stuff, at least for one day...

Sure, Davina, go ahead and make me blush...but of course, I am very flattered.

I almost pulled a "Marilyn Monroe" moment when I walked over a subway grating...

Not a great move in the winter.  My friend Jenn saved my modesty just in time.

It's snowing here in NYC, and we expect some tomorrow.  It won't be that much, just a couple of inches.  Not like upstate NY that got 5 feet in 24 hours!  I love when it snows.  It looks so pretty, and it makes the hot chocolate taste so much better.  Don't forget the marshmallows!

I hear that around Buffalo there is often lots of snowfall.
Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

See. Everyone agrees, Emma. When you smile, you just leave the world in awe.

Ah, yes. The dreaded "Lake-Effect Snow". I was born in Erie; my family is from there originally. My dad has pictures of snowdrifts to the roof of two-story houses.

We have some forecast later next week, more like "thick rain" I expect. 1/2 an inch and nobody can drive in it in the UK unless you are old enough for when we used to get snow in the 70s.

Chrissy, Buffalo has three things: snow, football, buffalo wings, and more snow...

Lori, I spent one year in Oswego, NY, on Lake Ontario.  The average snowfall is 118, but it can go to 178.  I never went back, so I can imagine what your dad saw.  Not surprisingly, Oswego once held the record for most bars per capita in the US.

Sephirah, you might like Oswego in winter, but bring a shovel and some really high boots.  I never saw the TV show Eerie, Indiana. I may look for it today, while it is snowing.  Sounds like my kind of show.  I grew up reading H.P. Lovecraft, so we are kindred souls.

Davina, if you are feeling nostalgic for the 70's, give me your address and I'll mail you some of our snow...you might like this way of snow removal.  I could cook hot dogs while removing the snow:

Unlike many here that have fully transitioned, I have chosen a gender middle ground.

My wife and I have been together for 50 years. We met in college and I believe we are truly soulmates. We have been through a lot and we are still together.

She admitted that she couldn't handle my full transition and I admitted that that I would be happier with her than without her if I fully transitioned.

Simply, we laugh together every day.

She has supported my orchiectomy, HRT, electrolysis and my days to be me as Emma.

I am sharing this for others who are struggling for their own answers.  This just happens to be mine in a world that has made our existence massively difficult.

I do get moments of personal pride, even if the world sees me as a guy. Clearly, I am not and that makes me smile all the time. I get the joke.

Today I had to show up for jury duty and part of the process was completing an anonymous demographic questionnaire. I loved checking off "transgender" when asked, every time.  It's my small way of letting the world know we exist... and we are everywhere.

With tremendous pride,

Emma
