Happy Thanksgiving! What's the traditional dish, poutine-stuffed turkey? 🙂

Why not think about times to come? And not about the things that you've done.
If your life was bad to you, just think what tomorrow will do
Don't stop thinking about tomorrow.
Don't stop, it'll soon be here.
It'll be better than before.
Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone

Out to self since March 5, 2026. My wife knows it all since June 23.

Most Canadians do thanksgiving very similar to the Americans in terms of catering - Turkey, stuffing and pie for dessert. I'm an immigrant so wasn't raised with turkey so we flip the script and do roast beef and roast leg of lamb. So more of a British type of dinner.

Well now, don't I feel ignorant! I have never heard of Canadian thanksgiving. I am suitably ashamed.

I really wish Britain would strengthen it's bonds with Canada and the other comonwealth nations. We have such a deep historical bond it is shameful that I very much think I will be in the majority of brits who know nothing of this.

I think I need to plan a holiday over there, soak up some of what Canada has to offer.

Happy thanksgiving all you lovely, beautiful Canadian people!

You absolutely should.  Be sure to visit Nova Scotia.  😊

A lot of Americans really like Thanksgiving because it doesn't involve the commercialism that Christmas does. It's about family and friends... and arguing with your crazy uncle. :D

I actually would fancy Nova Scotia actually. The coastline looks awesome for landscape photography. I have seen lots of images of Peggys Cove. What is Halifax like? What else would you recommend seeing?

Happy Thanksgiving. I celebrate thanksgiving differently I don't talk to any one and I turn off my phone. Being around people is exhausting.

I personally don't think much of Halifax.  I avoid it as much as possible.

Most tourists go to the South Shore, where Peggy's Cove is.  It is very pretty, especially if you stay off the main highway and go through the smaller towns and villages.

The Annapolis Valley (where I live) is beautiful and bucolic.  It is also historic, with Port Royal having been founded in 1605.  (Okay, I know that, to a Brit, 1605 is like the day before yesterday, but it's pretty old by North American standards.)  Annapolis Royal still has some old buildings that date from back then, and the old British fort is a National Historical site.

The French Shore is home to a vibrant Acadian French culture, settled by Acadians who were allowed to return several years after they were expelled by the British (mid to late 1700s).

The Fundy Shore is worth a visit, to see the highest tides in the world: 14 - 16 metres (over 50 feet).  There are restaurants there that specialize in serving lobster.

Cape Breton island is worth a visit by itself.  Right now (Thanksgiving weekend) is usually the peak of the autumn colours, and Cape Breton has the best colours in the area.  Many people plan their visits around them.
