Do you know people who "get" it?

I find many of the few who do know around about me being born female near me fit in this category.

They view me as male but clump me with homosexuals.

I spoke w/an instructor yesterday& I loved that he was trying but kept referring to "gays" when referring to trans people. I was like wait..no, they're different than us. I mean, we can be trans and gay but the concepts are very different. He's in his forties so not too old so you'd think he would understand the difference..

But no..not him.. It's just "gays." It annoys the hell out of me. I was talking to my partner who said it's cute that he thinks he "gets" it. I LOL'd. I just mentally face-palm whenever he clumps us altogether, lol.

I dont know the exact situation but it would depend on how he is refering it,

I agree that transexualism and homosexualism is nothing alike,

one is about what gender you are, the other about what gender your attracted to.

But I must say its not nessesarry bad to compare transexuals to homosexualiety.
we are in the same categori for a reason, because we have many simular points or wishes who both invold what gender you are, or what gender you like.

like hatecrimes, comming out, and so on.

My dad doesn't understand why I can't just be gay, but then he also says he understands why I feel I have to do it but he just doesn't agree with 'that kind of thing'. But then of course he also says I should be thankful with what I have because there's people out there with all sorts of illnesses and my bodies fine. I have no idea what he's blabbing on about really.
People around me who are supportive...I don't think they realise how bad it is. I don't think they have any idea about what goes on in your head constantly all day everyday and because I'm closed off emotionally I guess they don't realise the impact it has on me. They do realise its different from being gay but not that the two aren't related.
When I told my mum one of her first questions was 'so do you like girls too then'

=/ I'm sorry to hear your dad is like that, Tom. My dad was kind of like that when I first came out to him. But after much prodding and explaining to him, he finally came around and now for the most part I think he gets it.

Most of my friends listen to my show where we talk about LGBT issues all the time so I'm pretty much surrounded by people who "get it" even though most of them are str8 cis-folks.

As far as IRL friends, I think my boyfriend is really the only one who gets it. That and maybe another friend, Turtle. He's still adjusting to the whole pronouns thing because we don't talk often, and see each other even less, but when I told him it was less of an "what the hell are you talking about, if you like guys just be a girl" and more of an "oh, really? well, okay that's cool, makes sense".

In a way I guess im pretty happy that it right now is so obvious im not straight so when people see me they already figure out I muse be gay or something, before they think I might have been born female.. makes it in a way alittle more easy that way I think.

One of my closest friends is a Bi woman who has known other Transwomen in the past, and didn't even blink when I told her.  Another friend totally understood after a very brief explanation.

I hate this. I get it too, although its more 'if you like girls why don't you just stay a girl, no ones got a problem with gays anymore. Your not unattractive as a

Really?! So I should put aside my dysphoria because it's so easy to do that and stay a girl because I am remotely attractive.
It's ridiculous they obviously think its something we decided to do over night...like as important and as easy to reverse a decision as what we want to eat.

Same here, unfortunately.
Sometimes I even get mad when people can't make the difference between "~ identity" and "~ orientation" (in my language there is no "gender" and "sex", same word used in both...). But then...
