You two found some magic pixie dust or something. Maybe the culture is more accepting in the places you hang out and the sources of info you consume. That's not the standard experience for trans (or even gay) people so grats and I hope it continues.

I was simply referring to my day to day life.. I can find it quick enough if I go looking for it, all it does is annoy me - so why bother?

But, yes, in general, Australia is a fairly accepting culture - at least in the major cities.

QuoteFind some places, and not necessarily bars or such... something where the noise levels are low enough that you can have a real conversation with someone is often better than a bar. My therapist recommended support groups and groups focused on human rights or other issues as some of the main "meet markets" (yes, that's my intended spelling) -- especially for those of us somewhere in the LGBTQI spectrum.

Thanks, i thought of support groups but (prepares for hate) i am extremely afraid someone will know i'm trans but the human rights and other recommendations (if you can tell me). but that's me rambling a little but here is my question i'm extremely broke does going to these places cost money? (yes i am an idiot).

All I can say is that my life is pretty plain, I like watchin' the puddles gather rain.

Despite all my rage, I'm still just a rat in a cage

Political organizations may ask for voluntary donations, but if you come to them as a volunteer most will also accept just your time as a form of support, and are usually used to the notion that a lot of those drawn to them may not have much money, especially in the current economy.  It depends on the event or meeting... sometimes there will be a suggested donation to help defray the costs of a meeting place and so on, but if you are in desperate straights financially, there's often a way to get around even those nominal contributions.

I'm not in SF (part of me wishes I had gone there early on, but I met my ex while still in the Army and living in the DC area, so my fantasy of moving to SF or going to UC Berkeley never happened).  I'm sure there are a lot of different groups and issues to choose from if you look at local listings, either online or in places that appeal to you?
