Video: Glenn Beck Mocks Female Soldiers as "Transgendered Breast Cancer Survivor, Dwarf Cross Dresser"

By Michael Allen, Fri, February 01, 2013

Conservative radio host Glenn Beck slammed the Pentagon's decision to lift the ban on women serving in combat on his Thursday show (video below).

[...]

"The enemy is not going to cower in defeat because we have a female, Hispanic, Eskimo, dwarf cross dresser and some handi-capable, transgendered breast cancer survivor as a soldier on the front line ready to unleash an attack of unparalleled diversity. Nope, that's not going to do it. You gotta kill them. That's how you make people cower in defeat."

Actually, the Allies won WWII (the last war you could say America ever won)... thanks largely to one British gay guy, Alan Turing. Also the reason we have an internet, not to put too fine a point on it.  Didn't stop them from torturing him into suicide, of course. Schmuck Beck.

I don't care for Mr. Beck, But I have to agree with him on this.  You should listen to the whole commentary.  He admits his shortcomings.  Even though the above snippet is very crude, he has a good point here.  This is about women in combat roles and not gays in the military, which is another subject.  Very few women can do these roles, but there is a strain in the camaraderie in such units where women are already in place.  There were in the past rule changes to accommodate women in noncombat and marginal combat units that the cost to implement these changes had put a strain on the military budget that nobody foresaw.
My uncle and myself both served on aircraft carriers and we both agree that they do not belong in a combatant sardine can with 5,000 men in it.  My two nephews agreed that from their observations that the Navy is too lax on the relationships between male and female sailors on the amphibious ships they did training on overseas.  They saw a lot of pregnancies caused during the long cruises in these women.  The Navy has to do the transfers before the third trimester to transfer these women to shore or to home.  By the time these women showed, it is too late for these transfers to far shore bases in which there are no real safe bases in the Persian Gulf/ Indian Ocean theater.
The Army is quite stringent with the relationships between the women and men in their support units that they were surprised of what they saw on board ship.  Both of them were in combat units on the front line.

"For transpeople, using the right pronoun is NOT simply a 'political correctness' issue. It's core to the entire struggle transpeople go through. Using the wrong pronoun means 'I don't recognize you as who you are.' It means 'I think you're confused, delusional, or mentally I'll.'. It means 'you're not important enough for me to acknowledge your struggle.'"

How many wars has Glenn Beck fought in besides the ones in his head?

Born in 1964, too young for Viet Nam and too old for Iraq, he has done well in his battle with alcoholism and substance abuse.

In the video, Beck states,

This is a disastrous idea.  It will not only weaken our military, but put women's lives at risk.  Because they'll (the politicians) just lower the (physical) standards (to allow women in combat).  This is not a game.  This is not a chance to show "progress."  Defending America should be left to those most physically capable of doing so.... Shaping our military policies to fit political correctness or political agendas, only hinders our military, and our capabilities, and quite honestly, only gets more people killed in the long run.

It is difficult to disagree with that summation.

If the standards are not lowered, I have no qualms about letting women into combat units.

What a filthy old man. I hope he gets beaten up by a female, hispanic, transgendered midget in an eskimo costume.

I didn't bother with the video because I figured it would just stir up bad emotions.

There is a difference between being a woman and a woman with disabilities, short in height and her dress along with being a different race.He may have a point on woman *as a gender* in such a case but he does NOT have a point when race is thrown into the mix or things that should not even play a role.

As former military, and as someone who has served in combat and who has taken enemy lives... Mr. Beck is full of sh!t. Period. He has no clue. And when I say taken lives, I mean face to face, upfront and personal. Not shooting targets from a chopper/plane or launching missiles off a ship to some far away target. There are several other countries that allow women in combat, Israel is one Poland, Romania, Australia, Norway, Sweden, France, and Finland are a few others.

Are all people qualified for combat duty? No. But there are many males that for many reasons (health, religion, etc.) including some guys who simply don't have the stomach for it, that pass on combat duty. They serve in other roles. I know not every woman is capable of combat duty on the front-lines, but believe me, there are some that are. I've met and have seen what they can do. Should standards be lowered? Absolutely not. But if a person can pass whatever physical training or requirements necessary for combat duty, that person (regardless of gender or sexual orientation) should be allowed to serve. Period. It's only a matter of time before transgendered people are included as well. I and a few others I know are proof of that.

Mr. Beck needs to focus on his own personal issues, before judging others. His veiled discriminatory diatribes, which he tries to conceal as his "genuine concern for this nation" are garbage. I see now why he was kicked off Fox News... he was even too nuts for them. Wow.

It's called misogyny.  However, Glen Beck is a buffoon so I don't pay any mind to anything he has to say.

the fat ass is probably 10 years younger than me but make no mistake, on a hand to had combat he will be death in less than a minute...

Even if I was weaker than mos man, a gun is a great equalizer...

Ok, I hate to admit it, but he makes a couple of good points. I don't like Glenn Beck overall. I disagree with a lot of what he says.

Also note that I don't mind women joining the military.

However, the standards should not be lowered. Also, political correctness isn't important. "Are they good at their jobs? That's all that matters." Yes, Beck did say that.

Beck may not have served in any wars and isn't capable of meeting the physical standards. However, he admitted to not being able to meet the physical standards ("The standards are there to keep guys like me out." ) and to not knowing anything about the minute specifics of war. "I don't know my ass from my elbow when it comes to this stuff, so let's ask a general."

He admitted to his faults and made some valid points. Women should meet the same physical standards as men. Furthermore, political correctness is absolute hogwash. That's like saying that colleges should set aside a specific number of seats for black admission candidates so that the school can be more diverse. Such a policy was overturned by the Supreme Court, by the way.

His points about tapes of terrorists beheading women or female POWs being raped is silly, though. If society can't stomach that, it's their problem. Military members should know the risks.

Finally, I'd suggest you guys actually watch the video and forget that Glenn Beck is talking. Who's talking doesn't matter as much as what was being said. It seems to me that the only people who are ranting about people they don't like are you guys.

I don't like liberals; I don't like conservatives. I don't think either side is completely right. I also don't stereotype people and dismiss everything that people say just because they're conservatives. Get out of your biased heads.

I've heard enough of Glen Beck's musings to know what he's about.  No I will not spend 14 minutes listening to one of his diatribes just because it may include a couple of sentences with actual reason in them, nestled somewhere beside or otherwise in the midst of a "hilarious" racist/xenophobic/transphobic/disabilist joke that bizarrely seems to be pro-cancer.  Talk about covering all the bases.

If women are qualified for combat and they want to serve in that way, they should be allowed to.  Whether they should lower standards is an issue maybe worthy of discussion, but has anybody said they will do that?   Until then, why is it coming up?  It's an argument against something that doesn't exist.  It's fear of change and a little, maybe lot, fear/bias against women that makes people resist this change.
  •

Kevin Peña

Well, it's still an issue that could be discussed to ensure it doesn't happen.

It was more than just a couple of sentences that had reason, but whatever floats your boat. Just don't expect to have credibility in discussing something you didn't even listen to.
  •

BunnyBee

Lacking credibility or expertise on the subject of Glen Beck actually does float my boat, tbh.
