Had a funny gendering incident today. I was washing my hands in the public bathroom in my store when a male customer walked in, abruptly stopped when he saw me and asked worriedly, "Is this the women's or the men's washroom???" The look on his face was priceless! I was in boy-mode with a uniform vest on that is mostly worn by the male staff and he saw me in profile which I thought would have revealed my male nose and brow quite clearly. Maybe I don't have as much to worry about as I thought. One thing that felt really great about it was the kind of power shift in my favor that I felt as I fully had the upper hand there for a moment and he was clearly mortified at first. I could have said something smart-ass to him such as "It's Opposite Day", but because he seemed sincerely concerned that he might have been at fault I let him off the hook. You can bet from now on he'll always look twice before entering a public washroom!
I guess this was a "Win"?
