Y'know Auntie Shan, we just had a fatal black bear attack up here. First in state history. I open carry a full size .45 with critical duty +P in the woods when I walk but I was told that may not stop a charging bear and that a .44 mag might be better. That seems a heck of a lot better than walking around with a 12 gauge slung over my shoulder.

I really want to have a go at firing a gun next time I visit the states :)

C'mon over! Lots of options, if you're in this area let me know.

Yes, I had an enlightening moment when backpacking with my son years ago and we came up on a tree with a small bear cub up in it bawling, I thought OMG where's Momma? We scurried up the trail quickly, it could have turned into a tragic moment for us both.

We might not have very many bear here, but we do every so often. More of what I worry about is getting between any momma and cub is a dangerous place to be. Moose, deer, and we have coyotes here something fierce. Though I suppose if there's more than 5 of them, I might as well start using it as a hammer or something

I unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) was forced to get rid of my rifles by my wife after my first suicide attempt (which involved one of them).  I had a DPMS Panther Arms MP-4 AR-pattern riffle in 5.56 NATO with a grip-pod and a Lee-Enfield Model No. 4 conversion (converted from British .303 to 7.62 NATO in 1966 and the stock was later converted to a sport stock).

I miss them, but I understand the reason my wife made me sell them (at the time I had no idea I was trans, and that, with the resulting complications, explained almost everything that went wrong and led up to the attempt).

OK, I don't have mine yet but this is what I've decided upon:

For home defense and the range:
The Baretta M9; just a personal favorite:

For concealed carry:
The Springfield Armory XD-S 3.3" MODEL with a pinky extenstion:

The 92F or FS is the civilian version of the M9. Decent gun. A friend of mind has it and I like it. It's standard issue for the marine corps.

The XDS is a nice gun for CCW. That's what I carry most of the time and I have it in .45. They have it in 9mm now too.

Highly considering a 995ts. From what I'm able to gather, it's a great value, and for what it is, it's only $230 brand new

If anyone is up in the western mass area, the Springfield Armory Museum has an exhibit called "Springfield Armory goes Hollywood". They have several exhibits of guns, both real and props, from various movies. My personal favorite at the exhibit was the M1 Garand rifle that was used by Chief Brody (played by Roy Scheider) in the movie Jaws. At the end of the movie as the ship is sinking it was the rifle he was using to shoot at the air tank stuck in the sharks mouth. Smith & Wesson in Springfield also has a museum and there they have the guns used by Clint Eastwood in the Dirty Harry movies. In real life I have shot those guns, the S&W model 29 .44 magnum revolver (from the first 2 Dirty Harry movie) and the .44 automag (used in the movie Sudden Impact). They also have various smith and wesson guns used in other movies, including George C. Scotts revolver from the movie Patton.

On a more serious side, at the range today, a wonderful gentleman there let me shoot his world war 2 vintage Mosin Nagant. If anyone has seen the movie Enemy at the Gates, this was the exact same sniper rifle that was used by Jude Law when he played the character of the real life sniper Vasiliy Zaytsev. It has quite a kick to it, meaning recoil. Even at 100 yards, I was hitting steel targets and the rounds easily penetrated the 1/4 inch steel plates, it probably could have penetrated quite a bit more steel than that as well. Now I have to get one for myself. The rifle he let me try was made in 1942 and I can only think of the pivotal role in history that rifle played in defending Stalingrad or Moscow or in the final assault on Hitlers bunker. I personally love world war 2 history and it's probably why a rifle like that appeals to me.

A couple years ago my boss brought in an Arisaka and asked if anyone wanted to buy it. My buddy collects WWII stuff, so he took it. It turns out to be complete with the mum not ground off, it has the anti-aircraft sights, the cleaning rod, the bipod, the original leather sling, and the barrel was not cut off to fit in a duffle bag. I really like the old pieces like that.

9mm Hi Power Browning
SP101 4" 357 mag.
Taurus, snubby 357 mag, 5 shot
Imbel FN FAL .308
Remington LTR .308
2 M&P .223 AR-15 receivers, a project of mine, make one an M4, the other a  regular M16A2
Mossberg 500 12 guage pump
Browning pump shotgun 12 guage
3 pump air rifles, .177 cal.
1 C02 pistol .177 cal.

Had a M1D Garand sniper rifle 30-06 springfield, 2 M91/30 Mosin Nagants and a M1944 Mosin Nagants, sold for immediate emergency cash and not enough room, also kinda hard to have an arsenal stashed in your apartment/storage place, with all the above weapons, LOL, but I did at one time, before my property purchase (dissembled, in literal hundreds of  pieces, jig saw puzzle from hell for all of them, except one, LMAO).

Figure, there like gold, the value always goes up for some of them, and never disclosed them to my therapist, subject never comes up.

I like butterflies and 9mm "flowers."

Unfortunately, I did have a recent boating accident... ;)

I was expecting ladies with buff biceps. I'm mildly disappointed

Don't own a firearm yet, not psychologically stable enough to trust myself with one. This may be a good place to ask for advice for when I can be trusted though.

I have muscular and neurological damage to my right hand from a freak accident that led to hospital staff having to dig glass out of a wound half an inch deep. My weight limit on that arm is about five pounds now - the wrist gives out in what I can only describe as an explosion of pain and stiffness if I exceed that amount. I'm not too bothered by it, being a leftie, but I know that most readily available semi-automatic handguns are right-hand eject, meaning that if I used one with my left hand, I'd get a smoking hot shell thrown out at me. Found that out the hard way with my dad's 1911 Combat Commander. I feel like I'm limited to revolvers, but even then I fire two-handed, so I have to watch the recoil to avoid injuring myself again. My question is, what's a good caliber for a revolver? One that I can use with one hand without any trouble if needed, but won't kick hard enough to hurt me if I use both hands? My dad and uncle suggested a .38 Special, but that's a bit...small...for my tastes. I was considering a .357, personally, but I don't really know - the only weapons I've ever used were a bolt-action .22 long rifle and the 1911 mentioned above. That .45 hurts, definitely.
To strive to reach the apex of evolution is folly, for to achieve the pinnacle is to birth a god.

When the Stryker fires, all turn to dust in its wake.
